Job Description

The Parts Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement, inventory control, and distribution of parts and supplies required to support the company's fleet, heavy equipment, and operational facilities. This role ensures that mechanics and technicians have timely access to the necessary parts to maintain equipment used in waste management, environmental services, transportation, and emergency response operations. The Parts Manager maintains accurate inventory records, manages vendor relationships, and ensures cost-effective purchasing while supporting safe and efficient operations across the organization. Duties and responsibilities (include but are not limited to): Inventory & Parts Management Maintain accurate inventory of parts and supplies for trucks, heavy equipment, pumps, hydraulic systems, and shop tools. Track inventory levels and reorder parts as needed to prevent downtime. Organize and maintain the parts room for efficient retrieval and stock control. Conduct regular cycle counts and full inventory audits. Purchasing & Vendor Relations Source parts and materials from approved vendors at competitive pricing. Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and equipment manufacturers. Review purchase orders, invoices, and shipping documentation for accuracy. Identify cost-saving opportunities through vendor negotiations and bulk purchasing. Fleet & Maintenance Support Work closely with mechanics and technicians to ensure correct parts are ordered and available. Assist maintenance personnel in identifying required parts for repairs and preventive maintenance. Track parts usage for fleet vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment. Documentation & Systems Maintain inventory records and purchasing documentation within the company's inventory or maintenance management system. Monitor warranty claims and returns for defective parts. Prepare reports on parts usage, costs, and inventory trends. Safety & Compliance Ensure proper storage and handling of parts, chemicals, and hazardous materials. Maintain compliance with company safety standards and environmental regulations. Support company safety initiatives and maintain a clean, organized workspace. •
Essential Functions Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience in heavy equipment, trucking, environmental services, or industrial operations strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of heavy equipment, diesel truck, and hydraulic system parts. Inventory management and purchasing experience. Proficiency with inventory software or maintenance management systems. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Required Education, Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. 3-5 years of experience in parts management, inventory control, or equipment maintenance support preferred. Valid Driver's License.
Physical Requirements:
Position involves frequent heights; regular strenuous physical exertion. Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs. Requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, sitting, talking, and listening. Requires frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, and carrying. Required to have clarity of vision. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Regular exposure to chemicals. Including but limited to gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, kerosene and cleaning solvents. Subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
