School Transportation Manager

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Transportation Manager reports directly to, and works with, the owner and senior management personnel. The Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of every aspect of the regular education transportation for three school districts, including staffing, payroll, billing, and safety. The Manager is responsible for ensuring that applicable federal, state, and local laws/policies are met. This is a year-round position with benefits. The successful candidate shall be able to acquire a school bus driver's license and pass background and drug screen.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works in conjunction with School Transportation Staff and Company in all aspects of administration and operations oversight, including: contract administration, scheduling, routing, bus stop safety, rider registration, bus evacuation and safety programs, billing, and payroll. Works to establish schedules, bus routes, and stops in coordination with the Schools before the opening of school and revise as needed; continually review safety concerns of bus stops and routes throughout the school year. Work collaboratively with School District leadership, school principals, directors, and public safety personnel to ensure transportation services are delivered safely, efficiently, and effectively. Assist school administrators with student discipline issues on buses. Report parent, driver, and/or bus company concerns to appropriate building administrators; communicate with parents regarding student discipline issues. Investigate and report all incidents/accidents on school transportation vehicles. Correspond with necessary parties to address root causes of mishaps and oversee corrective measures where and when appropriate. Ensure day-to-day operations of the transportation program operate smoothly. Work with location staff to address routing and bus stop related issues and concerns raised by parents, staff, and transportation vendors in a timely manner. Drive or ride buses periodically to monitor the performance of the transportation system and gain firsthand knowledge about the routes as needed throughout the year. Advise owner and other district leadership of issues and concerns related to Transportation. Maintain adequate, accurate, and up-to-date records of schedules, routes, stops, student assignments, accident reports, school bus records and projected transportation requirements. Ensure that in-service training programs are conducted on a periodic basis for personnel involved in transportation, according to policy and statute. Schedule twice annual bus evacuation drills and bus safety meetings for all students twice a year with the location safety staff and other appropriate personnel inside and outside of the district. Ensure adequate coverage of routes and trips.
General Operations:
Assist the Owner in the development of Transportation budgets and policy. Write, interpret and enforce the provisions set forth in the specifications and contracts for school transportation and collective bargaining agreements. Represent the Company in matters and at meetings concerning transportation. Strive for continual quality improvement of all transportation related services. Prepare all reports concerning transportation, including state reports. Implement a comprehensive program of public relations.
