POSITION OVERVIEW
The Fleet Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and performance of the trucking company. This position oversees daily transportation operations, fleet performance, drivers, maintenance, safety, customer service, financial performance, and administrative functions. The Fleet Manager ensures the company operates safely, efficiently, profitably, and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is an experienced transportation leader with strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to manage people, equipment, customers, and operational resources in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Growth & Market Expansion Develop and execute strategies to grow residential and commercial waste collection services. Identify and secure new residential community contracts (HOAs, subdivisions, municipal agreement). Prospect and onboard commercial dumpster customers including construction companies, retail businesses, restaurants, and industrial facilities. Lead initiatives to expand operations into surround counties and underserved markets. Evaluate opportunities for Fleet and container expansion to support growth. Fleet, Equipment & Capital Asset Expansion Develop capital plans for acquiring additional garbage trucks, roll-off trucks, dumpsters and containers. Ensure efficient utilization and maintenance of all fleet and equipment assets. Work with ownership to determine capital investment priorities and ROI analysis for new assets. Implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime. Operational Efficiency and Route Optimization Oversee daily waste collection operations, including dispatch and route management. Optimize route planning and scheduling to maximize efficiency, reduce fuel costs and increase route density. Implement technology and operational practices that improve productivity, efficiency, and service reliability. Monitor operational performance metrics, and adjust routes based on growth and demand. Customer Experience & Service Quality Ensure a high-quality customer experience for both residential and commercial customers. Oversee customer onboarding including seamless account setup, billing enrollment, and auto-pay implementation. Establish service standards ensuring timely response to customer inquiries and service issues. Maintain a customer-first culture focused on reliability, professionalism and responsiveness. Vendor & Disposal Cost Management Negotiate competitive rates with transfer stations, landfills, and waste processing facilities. Manage contracts related to waste transportation, transfer and final disposal. Monitor disposal costs and identify opportunities to reduce operating expenses while maintaining compliance. Team Leadership & Workforce Development Recruit, hire, train and supervise drivers, route operators, customer service staff, and operational personnel. Establish a high-performance culture focused on accountability, safety, and service quality. Implement ongoing training programs to ensure operational safety and regulatory compliance. Build a leadership pipeline to support future company growth and expansion. Process Improvement, SOPs & KPIs Implement Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs) for all operational functions. Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators(KPIs) including: Route efficiency. Customer acquisition growth. Service reliability. Customer satisfaction. Cost per route. Disposal cost optimization. Revenue growth per asset. Utilize performance data to drive continuous operational improvements. Financial Oversight Manage operating budgets and ensure cost discipline across operations. Monitor revenue performance across residential and commercial accounts. Evaluate pricing strategies to remain competitive while maintaining profitability. Provide regular operational and financial reporting to ownership. Key Performance Indicators(KPIs) Success in this role will be measured by:
Growth in residential customers and HOA contracts.
Growth in commercial dumpster accounts.
Expansion into new counties and service areas.
Increase in fleet and dumpster asset utilization
Improvement in route efficiency and operation margins.
Reduction in cost per ton for waste disposal.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
5+ years of leadership experience in waste management, logistics, transportation, sanitation, or related operational industries. Proven experience managing fleet operations and route-based services. Experience managing P&L and operational budgets. Experience in solid waste management, refuse collection, recycling, or environmental services. Knowledge of transfer stations, landfill operations, and waste disposal regulations. Experience scaling regional operations or multi-route service businesses.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Prolonged periods of sitting while driving, regular walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing. Regularly life and move containers and materials. Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, odors, vibrations, moving mechanical equipment and other conditions associated with waste disposal. Fast paced environment with emphasis on safety, efficiency, teamwork and customer service.

$100,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
