Duties Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and wheelchair-accessible vans in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations Transport passengers—including students, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, providing wheelchair assistance and support for those with mobility challenges Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and first aid when necessary Maintain communication with dispatchers and passengers using clear, professional language to respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments Enforce behavior management policies to ensure passenger discipline and a respectful environment onboard Conduct vehicle inspections before and after trips, reporting any maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly Requirements Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport and wheelchair assistance Proven experience driving buses or similar large vehicles, preferably with school bus or transit bus operation experience Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws Certification in first aid and CPR; knowledge of emergency stop procedures and emergency response protocols for transportation is highly desirable Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities Ability to lift heavy objects safely when assisting passengers or handling equipment Experience working with children or seniors; understanding of child care or behavior management techniques is beneficial Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes while maintaining safety standards during transit routes Familiarity with school policies related to student discipline and childcare is advantageous Excellent customer service skills with a friendly, professional attitude toward passengers of all ages This position is an excellent fit for motivated drivers eager to make a positive impact through safe transportation services.
