Monday through Friday, with occasional travel required McRae's U.S. Mail Service, Inc. is seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead our safety department and support our trucking operations across Wisconsin and Minnesota. A USPS transportation contractor since 1987, McRae's operates a fleet of approximately 165 trucks and employs approximately 325 people. This position oversees two safety support employees and a driver trainer. We are looking for a hands-on leader who can set clear expectations, coach drivers, and work closely with operations to make safety part of everyday decisions. Responsibilities Lead the safety department, establish priorities, and provide guidance and accountability for the team. Oversee DOT and FMCSA compliance, driver qualification files, hours of service, ELD compliance, and required safety records. Oversee driver safety training, evaluations, and ongoing coaching in coordination with the driver trainer. Lead accident and incident investigations, identify contributing factors, and implement corrective actions. Monitor safety performance, roadside inspections, violations, and trends to identify opportunities for improvement. Develop and enforce practical safety policies and procedures. Plan and conduct driver safety meetings and communicate expectations clearly across the company. Partner with dispatch, fleet, HR, and operations to address driver concerns and unsafe practices promptly. Coordinate applicable drug and alcohol testing requirements and maintain required documentation. Support audits, insurance reviews, claims reporting, and customer safety requirements. Reinforce safe practices at postal facilities, including proper use of wheel chocks, trailer locks, and safety vests. Qualifications Minimum of five years of safety management experience in trucking or commercial transportation. Certified Director of Safety (CDS) credential preferred, but not required. Strong working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA requirements, hours of service, ELDs, and driver qualification standards. Experience supervising employees and coaching commercial drivers. Experience with accident investigations, corrective actions, and regulatory audits. Strong organization, documentation, and communication skills. Sound judgment and the ability to address difficult situations directly and professionally. Ability to balance daily operational demands with consistent safety expectations. CDL preferred Compensation and Benefits Annual salary of $90,000-$115,000, based on experience and qualifications. Health, dental, and vision insurance.
