Position Overview Outerlimits Powerboats is seeking a highly organized and hands-on Parts & Warehouse Supervisor to manage the company's parts, materials, inventory and warehouse operations at our Bristol, Rhode Island manufacturing facility. This position will play a critical role in supporting production by ensuring that the right parts and materials are purchased, received, identified, organized, controlled and delivered to the production floor at the right time and for the right boat . Outerlimits is entering an important period of growth, including the relocation to a new manufacturing facility, investment in new tooling and equipment, development of new models and expansion of production capabilities. A highly disciplined materials and warehouse operation will be essential to achieving these objectives. The ideal candidate is an extremely organized, detail-oriented and proactive professional who understands that warehouse organization and inventory accuracy directly impact manufacturing efficiency, production schedules and profitability. This is a hands-on position requiring significant interaction with suppliers, warehouse personnel, production supervisors and the manufacturing team. Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement & Materials Planning Manage procurement of key components, raw materials, hardware and production supplies required for boat manufacturing. Work closely with the Production Manager to understand production schedules, material requirements and upcoming boat builds. Monitor inventory levels and establish appropriate minimum/maximum stock levels and reorder points. Issue and manage purchase orders and follow up with suppliers regarding pricing, availability and delivery dates. Track supplier performance, including quality, lead times, pricing and reliability. Identify potential supply shortages before they impact production. Develop relationships with key suppliers and identify alternative sources when necessary. Coordinate purchasing to balance material availability with inventory investment and cash-flow requirements. Support cost-reduction initiatives through supplier negotiations, standardization and purchasing discipline. Help establish preferred suppliers and purchasing standards for frequently used components. Receiving Manage the receiving process for all incoming parts, components, raw materials and supplies. Verify quantities and condition of materials received against purchase orders and packing documentation. Ensure discrepancies, shortages or damaged materials are identified and communicated immediately. Establish a consistent receiving, inspection and documentation process. Ensure incoming materials are properly labeled and entered into the inventory system before being made available to production. Coordinate with purchasing and suppliers to resolve receiving discrepancies. Warehouse Organization A high level of warehouse organization is one of the most important responsibilities of this position. The Parts & Warehouse Supervisor will be responsible for creating and maintaining a warehouse environment where materials can be easily located, accurately identified and efficiently retrieved .
Responsibilities include:
Establish logical warehouse locations and storage zones. Develop clear and consistent labeling and identification systems. Establish dedicated locations for different categories of parts and materials. Ensure every inventory item has a defined location whenever practical. Organize inventory according to frequency of use, size, characteristics and production requirements. Establish efficient material flow from receiving → storage → production. Maintain clean, safe and accessible storage areas. Minimize unnecessary movement, searching and handling of materials. Establish visual management systems that allow employees to quickly understand where materials belong. Regularly review warehouse layout and reorganize it as production volumes and product mix change. Ensure that obsolete, excess or non-conforming materials are properly identified and segregated. Inventory Control Maintain accurate physical and system inventory records. Perform regular cycle counts and periodic physical inventories. Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies. Track high-value, critical and long-lead-time components. Establish controls to minimize lost, misplaced or incorrectly allocated parts. Monitor inventory consumption against production requirements. Identify slow-moving, obsolete and excess inventory. Work with management to reduce unnecessary inventory investment while maintaining production continuity. Establish appropriate controls for commonly used hardware, fittings, electrical components, hydraulic components and other small parts. Parts Identification & Allocation A critical responsibility of this position will be ensuring that components are correctly identified and allocated to individual boats under production . Develop a system for allocating parts and components to specific boat builds. Prepare and organize boat-specific material kits when appropriate. Ensure production teams receive the correct components for each boat. Clearly identify parts that are specific to a particular model, customer order or boat. Prevent parts intended for one boat from being inadvertently used on another. Track shortages and communicate them proactively to the Production Manager. Establish an efficient process for replenishing production areas. Coordinate with production supervisors to understand upcoming material requirements. Material Distribution to Production Manage the movement of materials from warehouse storage to the production floor. Establish a controlled process for production requests and material withdrawals. Ensure materials are delivered according to production priorities. Support the implementation of kit-based or staged material delivery where appropriate. Minimize production interruptions caused by missing, misplaced or incorrectly delivered components. Maintain appropriate inventory at production workstations without creating excessive work-in-process inventory. Coordinate closely with production supervisors to anticipate upcoming needs. 5S & Continuous Improvement Knowledge and practical experience with 5S methodology is a strong plus . Help develop young talent capable of taking on increased responsibilities as the company expands. Systems & Documentation Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records within the company's systems. Establish standardized part descriptions, part numbers and naming conventions. Develop and maintain organized inventory lists and location maps. Improve documentation of frequently used components and raw materials. Support the development of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and material requirements for new models. Maintain records of supplier information, lead times and purchasing requirements. Develop simple but effective reporting for inventory levels, shortages, purchasing status and supplier performance. The candidate should have:
5+ years of experience in warehouse, inventory, purchasing, materials management or manufacturing operations. Experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred. Experience managing inventory involving a large number of different components and SKUs. Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills. Experience with receiving, purchasing and inventory control. Ability to establish and maintain logical warehouse organization. Experience working with ERP, inventory or purchasing systems. Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel. Ability to read and understand purchase orders, packing lists, technical specifications and parts documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal production teams. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying potential production issues. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Willingness to be hands-on and work directly with materials and inventory when necessary.
