Job Description

Bay Line Construction is seeking to hire a Material Handler in Georgetown, DE and surrounding areas.
Overview:
Bay Line Construction is a full-service electrical contractor specializing in overhead and underground electrical distribution construction. The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient receiving, storing, staging, loading, unloading, and transporting of materials, tools, and equipment between the yard/warehouse and job sites. This role requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to operate company trucks for material and equipment delivery and plays a key part in keeping field crews supplied and projects on schedule. This position will report to the Operations Manager. Key Responsibilities
  • Load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, and supplies between the warehouse/yard and active job sites using company vehicles
  • Operate a CDL-required vehicle (flatbed, box truck, or similar) safely and in compliance with DOT regulations
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any mechanical issues
  • Receive incoming shipments, verify quantities against packing slips/purchase orders, and inspect for damage
  • Accurately record and maintain inventory using manual logs or warehouse management/inventory software
  • Organize and store materials in designated locations to optimize space and accessibility Pick, stage, and prepare material orders for job site delivery based on project schedules
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks
  • Secure loads properly using straps, chains, or other tie-down equipment to ensure safe transport
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to confirm delivery schedules and material needs
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, warehouse, and vehicles
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques, PPE use, and hazard reporting
  • Complete required documentation, including delivery tickets, mileage logs, and DOT hours-of-service records
  • Assist with periodic physical inventory counts and cycle counts Required Qualifications
  • Valid Commercial's Driver's License (CDL Class A) with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass DOT physical examination and drug/alcohol screening
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in material handling, warehousing, or a similar logistics role
  • Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or similar equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly, and up to 75+ lbs occasionally, with or without assistance
  • Basic math skills for inventory counts and measurements
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions Preferred Qualifications
  • Forklift certification
  • Experience in construction, utility, or industrial material handling
  • Familiarity with inventory management software
  • Knowledge of DOT hours-of-service and log requirements Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Combination of warehouse, yard, and job site environments
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and heavy equipment
  • Regular bending, lifting, standing, and climbing in/ out of vehicles
  • Some travel between yard and job sites required Schedule Full-time; may require early start times, overtime or occasional weekend work based on project demands
