Shop Helper / Material Handler

Job Description

Position Summary The Shop Helper & Material Handler supports daily manufacturing operations by managing incoming inventory, safely operating machinery, and maintaining an efficient facility. This role balances material receiving and forklift operations with machine fluid maintenance and general shop housekeeping to ensure constant production up-time. Key Responsibilities Material Receiving & Inventory Logistics Unload incoming shipments from delivery trucks using forklifts or manual equipment. Verify received materials against packing slips to ensure accuracy and document discrepancies. Inspect incoming stock for damage and report issues to management. Stage, tag, and organize received raw stock and supplies in designated inventory areas. Forklift Operation & Material Handling Safely operate a forklift to move heavy materials, raw stock, and pallets across the shop floor. Transport required raw stock material directly to machinists to maintain production flow. Consult with machinists to identify and remove scrap stock from work areas. Return usable excess stock material to designated storage racks. Operate shop saws to cut raw stock material to specified lengths for production. Manage, transport, and empty heavy chip bins containing metal shavings. Fluid & Machine Maintenance Monitor and top off coolant levels in production machines. Monitor and fill oil reservoirs in machinery to ensure smooth operation. Wipe down and clean external surfaces of machines regularly. Shop Cleanliness & Safety Immediately clean up all coolant and oil spills to prevent slip hazards. Keep shop floors clear by picking up garbage, cardboard, and miscellaneous items. Collect, stack, and organize empty pallets safely using a forklift. Qualifications & Physical Requirements Forklift Certification or the ability to obtain certification within a specified period. Experience with material receiving, reading packing slips, and basic inventory logging. Comfortable working around industrial machinery and handling manufacturing fluids. Ability to lift heavy materials and stand or drive for extended periods.
Pay:
From $20.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
