2989945104-2 Apply for this job now Job Description Knife River is seeking a Rail Material Handler to safely load, unload, and move construction aggregates and materials in a rail yard environment. In this role, you will operate heavy equipment such as loaders, skid steers, and forklifts, spot and secure railcars, and ensure accurate material counts and documentation. You'll perform routine equipment inspections, follow all safety and environmental procedures, and support yard organization. This position works closely with plant and logistics teams to keep projects supplied on time, offering hands-on experience, training, and career growth in a safety-focused, team-oriented company. Responsibilities Safely load, unload, and move aggregates and construction materials in the rail yard Operate loaders, skid steers, forklifts, and related heavy equipment Spot, secure, and assist with positioning of railcars for loading and unloading Perform pre- and post-operation inspections and basic equipment maintenance Follow all Knife River safety, environmental, and operational procedures Maintain accurate material counts, tickets, and basic inventory records Communicate with plant, trucking, and rail personnel to coordinate material flow Help keep the yard organized, clean, and free of hazards Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and near-misses promptly Support other plant or yard duties as assigned Required Skills Rail yard operations Heavy equipment operation Forklift operation Front-end loader operation Skid steer operation Material handling Basic mechanical maintenance Safety and OSHA compliance Two-way radio communication Recordkeeping and inventory tracking
