Assistant Transfer Station Operator

Job Description

ASSISTANT TRANSFER STATION OPERATOR
Position Definition :
Under limited supervision operates a solid waste disposal transfer station & performs related work as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to continuously walk premises for a minimum of an 8-hour workday, bend stoop or collect debris using a trash pick-up gator tool, use 8-10 foot pole/picker to dislodge or collect items improperly discarded at a minimum distance of 6-12 feet, ability to regularly handle the lifting of up to 100-pounds.
General Duties:
  • Maintain control, as well as ensure an orderly, efficient operation at the Transfer Station
  • Enforce Transfer Station operating rules and maintain a safe environment
  • Enforce recycling regulations
  • Check all vehicles for proper permits and forbidden items
  • Check solid waste for recyclable items if warranted
  • Direct traffic through the station & assist townspeople whenever needed
  • Issue permits, warning letters and citations
  • Report all infractions to the Transfer Station Operator
  • Operate and maintain compactor unit and backhoe for efficient operation
  • Ensure only designated items for specific areas of disposal are placed in the proper area so as not to commingle or contaminate loads
  • Keep premises clean, free of litter and debris, and ensure all items are immediately placed in the appropriate holding areas
  • Management of premises during inclement weather, i.
e., sanding, salting, shoveling, collecting loose and/or airborne debris.
Note:
Must be available during winter to plow snow in parking lots and shovel sidewalks.
License, Certificate & Experience Required:
D.E.E.P. Transfer Station Operator certification within 6 months of appointment and a valid CT driver's license.
