Job Description
ASSISTANT TRANSFER STATION OPERATOR
Position Definition :
Under limited supervision operates a solid waste disposal transfer station & performs related work as assigned.Physical Requirements:
Ability to continuously walk premises for a minimum of an 8-hour workday, bend stoop or collect debris using a trash pick-up gator tool, use 8-10 foot pole/picker to dislodge or collect items improperly discarded at a minimum distance of 6-12 feet, ability to regularly handle the lifting of up to 100-pounds.General Duties:
- Maintain control, as well as ensure an orderly, efficient operation at the Transfer Station
- Enforce Transfer Station operating rules and maintain a safe environment
- Enforce recycling regulations
- Check all vehicles for proper permits and forbidden items
- Check solid waste for recyclable items if warranted
- Direct traffic through the station & assist townspeople whenever needed
- Issue permits, warning letters and citations
- Report all infractions to the Transfer Station Operator
- Operate and maintain compactor unit and backhoe for efficient operation
- Ensure only designated items for specific areas of disposal are placed in the proper area so as not to commingle or contaminate loads
- Keep premises clean, free of litter and debris, and ensure all items are immediately placed in the appropriate holding areas
