PRIMARY PURPOSE
Housby is seeking a reliable, safety-focused Steam Bay Technician to clean and degrease commercial trucks, mixers, and heavy equipment before inspection, repair, or paint. This role keeps vehicles ahead of the VDA and production schedule so technicians can begin with clean, inspectable, production-ready equipment.
WHY HOUSBY?
Housby, a family-owned business for over 50 years, offers a flexible environment, a competitive benefits and compensation package, and most importantly, a culture that promotes growth along with celebrating success. Here at Housby we realize that our greatest asset remains our employees, and we are committed to developing and promoting our talented individuals to support our future leadership needs.
EXPECTATIONS
Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Prioritize vehicles according to the VDA and production schedule and complete cleaning before the scheduled appointment or repair start. Thoroughly degrease, wash, and clean damaged and inspection areas so estimators and technicians can accurately identify visible and concealed conditions. Report visible damage, fluid leaks, loose components, unsafe conditions, or other concerns discovered during cleaning. Confirm each unit is sufficiently clean and ready for VDA before releasing it from the steam bay. Record when units enter and leave the bay and accurately update assigned work and job status. Operate hot-water steamers, pressure washers, degreasing tools, and cleaning-chemical systems safely and efficiently. Inspect hoses, fittings, guards, and equipment before use and complete routine cleaning and preventive maintenance. Keep the steam bay clean, organized, and free of unnecessary vehicles. Drive units into and out of the steam bay when authorized and coordinate daily priorities with the production team. Follow chemical labels, safety data sheets, wastewater, drainage, environmental, PPE, and workplace-safety procedures. Assist with approved body-shop support tasks when the steam schedule is current and as directed by the production foreman. Maintain dependable attendance, punctuality, equipment readiness, and a safe, organized bay. Must follow the company's safety rules and policies. Maintain a professional image at all times.
SKILLSEXPERIENCE
At least 1 year of vehicle washing, detailing, power washing, industrial cleaning, or similar manual-labor experience is preferred. Strong attention to detail, dependability, punctuality, and pride in workmanship. Ability to follow priorities, work with minimal supervision, and communicate conditions that could delay inspection or production. Basic mechanical awareness is preferred. Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and dependable transportation to and from work. Demonstrates Housby's Core Values.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to work safely in wet, dirty, hot, humid, and physically demanding conditions. Required use of eye, hearing, foot, hand, and other assigned personal protective equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors throughout the year. Regular exposure to water, heat, humidity, steam, cleaning chemicals, high-pressure washing equipment, moving vehicles, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, varying temperatures, and moderate-to-very-loud noise.
COMPENSATIONBENEFITS
Competitive Pay (Based on Experience) Full benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, and more! Company provided uniforms. 9 Paid Holidays (Including your birthday off!) 120 hours of PTO after first full year of employment. Energetic and transparent work environment and great company culture. Ongoing training, and professional development opportunities. Housby is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
