Job Description

Under general supervision, drives and operates a variety of motorized and/or construction equipment such as end loaders, back hoes, tandem axle trucks, terregators, etc. to perform material preparation and processing activities during the land application season and assists in snow removal, lawn maintenance and/or basic plant operation duties as required. Click here to review the full job description : Class Specifications | Plant Field Worker | Class Spec Details Possession of a high school diploma; and One (1) year of specialized/technical training; and One (1) or more years of previous experience in the operation of motorized and/or construction field equipment; or An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Possession of a valid State of Iowa class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with tank endorsement and allowing the operation of vehicles with air brakes is required.

These records must be submitted to the City of Des Moines Human Resources Department by the application deadline. Drives single axle, tandem axle, semi and other types of trucks to haul materials to appropriate locations. Loads and operates equipment such as semi, terregator, end loader, wildcat aerating machine, backhoe, etc. to prepare and/or process various materials according to weight distribution regulations and other safety guidelines; operation may include appropriately setting controls to activate and regulate the processing of materials according to established guidelines. Operates N-Viro sludge processor to mix various dusts [polymers] into soil for application to fields. Performs routine cleaning, preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Plows, loads and hauls snow to assist in snow removal efforts. Maintains records of mileage and maintenance service according to established procedures. Assists in general maintenance of grounds by trimming shrubbery, mowing grass, repairing fences, removing trash and debris, etc. Performs other related duties as required.
