JOB SUMMARY

Employees in this class are under close supervision. Work performed involves maintenance tasks of an unskilled or semi-skilled nature.

Examples of work performed:

works as a member of a leaf removal crew; cleans and maintains equipment and tools; may cut grass with tractor and rotary mower; remove debris from street right of-ways and other city property; load and unload gravel, trash, garbage and other debris; work as part of road repair, curb/gutter or sidewalk construction crew; performs related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions Knowledge of the operation and minor maintenance of light vehicles and equipment Ability to carry out simple oral instructions Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under unfavorable climatic conditions Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and co-workers

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a valid TN driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical:

Work involves frequent walking, bending, squatting and lifting of items up to 100 pounds. Must be capable of performing laborious tasks over extended periods of time. Work requires employee to frequently stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Employee is required to regularly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and occasionally talk or hear.

Environmental:

Performance of the essential duties of this job requires occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) or work near moving mechanical parts. Work involves frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and occasional exposure to extreme hot or cold.
