Cashier / Customer Service Associate New World African & Caribbean Market Miami Gardens, FL Job Summary New World African & Caribbean Market is looking for a friendly, dependable, and knowledgeable Cashier / Customer Service Associate to join our team. We are more than a grocery store—we serve a diverse community of customers looking for authentic African and Caribbean foods, ingredients, and household products. The ideal candidate should have strong familiarity with African and Caribbean food products , enjoy helping customers, and create a warm, welcoming experience for everyone who walks into the store. We are looking for someone who can confidently recognize common products, help customers locate items, answer basic product questions, and provide fast, accurate service at checkout. Responsibilities Greet every customer in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner Accurately process cash, credit/debit card, and other customer transactions Provide excellent customer service throughout the checkout process Assist customers in locating products throughout the store Answer questions about African and Caribbean groceries, ingredients, brands, and common product uses Maintain an accurate cash drawer and follow proper cash-handling procedures Bag customer purchases carefully and efficiently Keep the register, checkout area, and surrounding work areas clean and organized Assist with stocking, facing, pricing, and organizing merchandise when needed Monitor shelves and notify management when popular products are running low Help maintain clean, organized, and attractive product displays Handle customer questions or concerns professionally and respectfully Work collaboratively with other team members to keep store operations running smoothly Ideal Candidate The strongest candidate will: Have good knowledge of African and Caribbean food products and ingredients Be familiar with products such as yams, garri, beans, palm oil, pounded yam, stockfish, mackerel, egusi, seasonings, frozen foods, beverages, and other African or Caribbean grocery staples Be naturally friendly, approachable, patient, and welcoming Enjoy interacting with customers from different backgrounds Be comfortable recommending or helping customers identify products Be dependable and punctual Pay close attention to accuracy when handling money and transactions Be able to work efficiently during busy periods Maintain a professional and positive attitude Qualifications Previous cashier, grocery store, retail, or customer service experience is preferred Familiarity with African and/or Caribbean grocery products is strongly preferred Comfortable using a POS/register system Basic math and cash-handling skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and move grocery products and merchandise as needed Must be reliable and able to follow assigned work schedules What We Value At New World, customer experience matters.
