This position is part of the Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) Multi-Benefit Navigators Program, a Service Year initiative. Benefit Navigators play a crucial role in the DHS mission to assist people in economic need by enhancing access to essential benefits. The program aims to deploy dedicated Service Year Members directly into LDSS offices to provide personalized assistance, helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of the benefits system and connect with resources designed to foster economic stability. The Benefit Navigator supports efforts to improve access to public benefits. Navigators will be assisting DSS customers with applying for, renewing, and maintaining benefits across FIA Programs (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Cash Assistance, emergency assistance, and customer service). Navigators will also be providing additional support to DSS staff and customers with document scanning and uploads, connecting customers to workforce opportunities, scheduling and participating in community outreach events, and helping with the customer service unit by providing greeter and front line assistance Members will also be required to assist in standing up and staffing a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site at their respective LDSS. This includes intensive training on tax preparation, educating customers on various tax credits they may be eligible for, and providing one-on-one tax return filing assistance to customers during tax season (January-April 2027).
