Job Description
About R:
Home R:
Home designs, installs, and services high-end residential technology systems — whole-home audio and video, lighting and shade control, networking, and automation. Our clients expect their systems to work every time they touch them, and our reputation is built on what happens after the install: how fast we respond, how completely we solve the problem, and how the homeowner feels when we leave. The Role This is a service-first position. You'll be the person we send when a system that used to work doesn't, when a client wants their setup expanded, and when a job needs someone who can diagnose the problem instead of just replacing parts. You'll work independently in occupied luxury homes, which means you need the technical depth to solve problems on site and the professionalism to represent us in front of homeowners, designers, and builders. What You'll Do
Run service calls on residential AV, control, lighting, shade, and network systems
Diagnose and repair issues across control platforms, distributed audio, video distribution, theaters, and networks
Program and reprogram Savant, Control4, and Lutron systems — including adding devices, editing scenes, correcting configurations, and updating drivers and firmware
Configure and troubleshoot Ubiquiti/UniFi networks: switches, access points, VLANs, and controller settings
Perform system upgrades, replacements, and additions in existing homes
Identify opportunities to improve or expand a client's system and pass them to the sales team with clear notes and photos
Document every call — findings, work performed, parts used, and time — so accounts can be updated and billed accurately and the next tech isn't starting from zero
Communicate directly with homeowners and household staff, explaining what happened and what you did in plain language
Support the install team on commissioning and punch list work when service volume allows
Keep your van, tools, and truck stock organized and inventoried What You Need
8-10+ years of hands-on residential AV or home technology experience, with significant time in a service or troubleshooting role
Demonstrated programming ability in Savant, Control4, and Lutron (RadioRA 3, HomeWorks, Ketra)
Working knowledge of Ubiquiti/UniFi networking — you can build a VLAN, adopt an AP, and read a controller to find the actual problem
Solid networking fundamentals: IP addressing, subnets, DHCP, port forwarding, remote access
Comfortable terminating and testing category cable, coax, fiber, and speaker wire
Ability to read prints and wire schedules
Strong client-facing communication and a clean, professional presentation in high-end homes
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in attics, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
Own basic hand tools (specialty and test equipment provided) Nice to Have
Manufacturer certifications in Savant, Control4, or Lutron (please list current certifications when you apply)
Experience with Sonos, Josh.ai, RTI, or Pro Control
Experience with distributed video (HDBaseT, AV over IP) and dedicated theaters
Experience mentoring junior technicians
Familiarity with Access Networks, Araknis, or similar managed network platforms
CEDIA training or coursework What We Offer
$34-40/hour based on experience and certification level
Company vehicle, tools, phone, and laptop
Paid manufacturer training and certification — we'll pay to close gaps in your platform experience
A defined technician career pathway with clear criteria for advancement and pay increases
