Job Description

Position Summary The Georgia Trust for Local News is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented content manager with strong copy editing and production skills to support a centralized copy desk serving multiple Georgia Trust newspapers. This role oversees the editing, coordination, and production workflow that moves content from story budget to final publication, ensuring stories are accurate, complete, and delivered on deadline across both print and digital platforms. This position works closely with editors, reporters, designers, and external production partners to manage the flow of content through the production process. Responsibilities include copy editing, story budgeting, production coordination, page proofing, and maintaining quality standards across all supported publications. The successful candidate will combine strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and workflow management skills to ensure efficient production, consistent quality, and reliable execution of newsroom deadlines. Responsibilities and Priorities Build and manage weekly story budgets across multiple publications Coordinate with editors to finalize lineups, story placement and priorities Ensure all content is accounted for and aligned with print and digital needs Line edit stories for grammar, AP style and consistency Maintain each publication's voice while ensuring overall quality control Write and refine headlines, decks, captions and cutlines as needed Work directly with the design team to execute page designs Answer questions from designers regarding story flow, trims, headlines and art Review proofs and ensure pages are accurate, complete and publication-ready Proof print pages for errors, consistency and style Catch and correct issues related to layout, headlines, captions and jumps Ensure all deadlines are met without sacrificing accuracy Serve as a central point of contact between multiple newsrooms and production Communicate edits, questions and updates clearly and efficiently Resolve last-minute issues and manage changes under deadline pressure Prepare and publish stories to CMS platforms Optimize headlines, URLs and metadata for SEO and audience engagement Ensure digital presentation aligns with print content while maximizing readability Minimum Qualifications 3-5+ years of newsroom experience Strong command of AP style and grammar Experience working on tight deadlines in a multi-publication environment Familiarity with CMS platforms or Wordpress and digital publishing workflows Ability to manage multiple priorities across different publications simultaneously Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams Experience working with weekly newspapers or multi-title publishing groups Background in both print production and digital publishing Familiarity with layout and design workflows (InDesign or similar tools) Strong collaborator who can work across editorial, revenue, and operations functions without losing focus on the audience. High-quality copy, effective coordination, and rigorous proofing ensure errors are caught before publication, revisions are minimized, and every edition reflects the standards and credibility of local journalism across the communities GTLN serves.
Pay:
$30,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
