Job Description

Graphic Designer Brandon Lehman Show Champaign, IL Job Details Part-time From $25 an hour 16 hours ago Benefits Relocation assistance Qualifications Typography Teamwork YouTube Canva Photo editing Professional art or design Adobe After Effects Full Job Description Job Overview We're seeking a sharp, driven Graphic Designer to lead thumbnail design for a fast-growing YouTube channel (700K+ subscribers, millions of monthly views) in the political commentary and video-essay space. In this role, YouTube thumbnails are your primary craft — the single most important visual asset we produce, and the difference between a video getting 50,000 views or 500,000. You'll be responsible for dramatically upgrading the quality and click-through rate of our thumbnails going forward, using both cutting-edge AI design tools and traditional software. Roughly 80% of your time is thumbnails; the other 20% is partnering with our social/community manager on social posts and brand graphics. This is a paid, full-time opportunity to have your work seen by millions and grow with a scaling brand. Responsibilities Design, iterate, and A/B test high-performing YouTube thumbnails for every upload — the core of the role. Significantly raise the quality and CTR of our thumbnails above our current baseline; we're hiring you to push the ceiling, not maintain it. Develop bold thumbnail concepts and hooks that are impossible to scroll past and read clearly at small sizes. Cut out, composite, retouch, and color-match subjects into dramatic, high-contrast, emotionally legible compositions. Use cutting-edge AI design tools (generative image, AI editing, upscaling, background/object tools) alongside Photoshop to produce better thumbnails, faster. Build and evolve a consistent, recognizable thumbnail style that strengthens our brand. Turn thumbnails around quickly to match our publishing cadence, including fast iterations on short notice. Use YouTube analytics to learn what's working and continuously improve performance. Spend ~20% of your time creating social media graphics and brand assets in collaboration with our social/community manager. Stay ahead of thumbnail trends, competitor channels, platform changes, and new tools — and bring ideas to the table. Skills Proven experience designing YouTube thumbnails — required. Your portfolio must include real thumbnails; performance/CTR context and larger channels are a strong plus. Strong proficiency in Adobe Photoshop (and/or comparable pro tools) and Canva. Hands-on fluency with current AI design tools and genuine eagerness to adopt new ones as they emerge. A strong eye for composition, contrast, typography, color, and facial expression/emotion — the fundamentals that make a thumbnail pop. Fast, reliable turnaround and the ability to juggle multiple deliverables against a publishing schedule. Ability to take direction and iterate quickly, while also bringing original ideas. Social media graphic design experience (Instagram, X, TikTok, Shorts covers) — a plus. Familiarity with political, commentary, news, or video-essay content — a plus. Motion graphics / short-form editing basics (After Effects) — a plus, not required. Portfolio Required Applications without a portfolio will not be considered. Show us real thumbnails you've made — which performed best, what tools you used, and the view/CTR impact if you have it. In your note, tell us your favorite AI design tools and why. Join us to make the best thumbnails in the commentary space. Your work will shape a growing brand and be seen by millions — and you'll grow your skills in a fast-moving, high-standards environment built by creators, for creators. This is a paid opportunity for someone hungry to make a real impact.
