This role works under the direction of a Supervisory Interior Designer but is expected to independently plan, manage, and execute design projects from concept through installation — including space planning, budgeting, furniture/fixture/equipment (FF&E) procurement, and move/activation coordination. This is a hands-on, high-responsibility role for a designer comfortable working in a patient-care healthcare environment, navigating government procurement processes, and coordinating across multiple stakeholders and vendors. What You'll Do Independently plan and execute interior design projects across a range of healthcare space types — offices, conference rooms, patient exam and treatment rooms, waiting rooms, lobbies, break rooms, storage, and support spaces Prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings, layouts, FF&E plans, color schemes, and presentation visuals Interpret architectural drawings and ensure design plans align with facility standards and building codes Develop procurement packages, including Statements of Work (SOW), technical specifications, cost estimates, bid sheets, and budgets Manage FF&E procurement financials and coordinate with vendors on delivery and installation timelines Maintain the Interior Design Resource Library (drawings, specs, correspondence, project documentation) Oversee installation activities, review wayfinding/signage and furniture plans, and direct installation crews Create and manage punch lists, coordinating resolution with furniture dealers and installers Coordinate move/activation planning with Contracting, Logistics, Environmental Management Services (EMS), IT, Materials Management, and end users Lead stakeholder meetings to plan space transitions, accounting for staff/patient/visitor flow, infection control, security, and logistics Support facility teams in assessing current operations and planning new space configurations

What You Bring Required:

Working familiarity with Patient-Centered Care principles in a healthcare setting Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications Strong freehand and to-scale drafting skills, including on-site field measurement Proficiency in AutoCAD Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with contractors, vendors, management, and facility staff Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on complex, multi-phase projects Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including

ABAAS, VA

Barrier Free Design Guide, ICC, OSHA, and NFPA Education & Experience (at least one required): Bachelor's degree, or 8-10 years of professional interior design experience Healthcare design experience is required regardless of which path above is met

Preferred:

One or more of the following certifications: NCIDQ, PMP, EDAC, or LEED Experience with Microsoft Project and/or Revit (beneficial, not required) Work Environment This role is based on-site at a VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) medical facility and requires coordination with multiple internal departments and external vendors throughout the lifecycle of construction and activation projects.

Pay:

$80,000.00 - $84,000.00 per year
