Junior Designer & Project Coordinator — Amal Kapen InteriorsCold Spring Harbor, NY
• Full-time, in person.
About us:
Amal Kapen Interiors is a full-service residential interior design firm and retail showroom on Main Street in Cold Spring Harbor. We design classic, traditional interiors with a strong use of color: chintz, stripes, blue and white, antiques and tailored upholstery. Our projects include historic renovations, new construction and decorating across Long Island, New York City, the Hamptons and Florida. Our work has appeared in Veranda, The Wall Street Journal and Traditional Home as well as other publications.
The role:
This is a great first job for a recent graduate who loves traditional design and wants to learn the business from the ground up. You'll work closely with the principal on design and on keeping projects running smoothly. You'll also help in our showroom, which has a relaxed pace.
Who you are:
You love classic, traditional design and are drawn to color, pattern and antiques You follow traditional designers and read Veranda, House Beautiful or Elle Decor You're organized, detail-oriented and take initiative You enjoy working directly with clients and customers What you'll do:
Design:
draft floor plans, furniture layouts and elevations in CAD or SketchUp; prepare presentations and mood boards; source furniture, fabrics, lighting and finishes Project coordination: track orders, lead times and deliveries; communicate with vendors and workrooms; keep project files organized; help with site measurements and installations and photoshoots
Showroom:
help customers, merchandising and the online shop
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (interior design, architecture or a related field preferred) Working knowledge of AutoCAD or SketchUp A valid driver's license and your own car, for client meetings, site visits and installations Lives within driving distance of Cold Spring Harbor Able to work in person in Cold Spring Harbor five days a week
Compensation:
$25-30 per hour, (50,000-54,000 per year) based on experience & education. We work between 7-8 hour days, 5 days per week To apply: Send your resume and a few examples of your work (if you have). Tell us about a designer or a room you love, and why.
