Join the team at Mayflower Construction Group, where we specialize in personalized residential renovations with a strong focus on kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, sauna spaces, and whole-home remodeling. Our Vienna/Tysons showroom features a wide selection of cabinetry, finishes, materials, fixtures, and colors. We are a process-driven, detail-oriented company committed to producing designs that are attractive, budget-conscious, technically accurate, and ready for construction.
Role Summary:
We are seeking a talented and organized Interior Designer to collaborate with our sales team, Project Coordinator, Project Manager, vendors, and construction team. The designer will process information received from clients and the sales team, conduct showroom and in-home consultations, guide clients through material selections, and produce complete design packages using Chief Architect and 20-20 Design. The position also includes preparing scopes of work, material lists, finish boards, elevations, lighting and rough-in plans, and realistic 3D renderings. The designer must ensure that the drawings, material specifications, client selections, and written scope remain consistent. This is a full-time, in-person position. It is not remote or hybrid. Local travel to client homes, supplier showrooms, and active projects is required. The employee must have a valid driver's license and use a reliable personal vehicle. Approved business mileage and travel will be compensated according to company policy.
Portfolio Requirement:
Applicants must submit examples of their actual residential design work with their application. The portfolio must include technical design documentation, such as floor plans, elevations, cabinetry plans, finish boards, tile layouts, or similar construction-related drawings. Photographs and conceptual renderings alone are not sufficient. Applications submitted without relevant work samples may not be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct in-person client consultations at our showroom. Perform in-home consultations, field measurements, and design-verification visits. Accompany clients to supplier or vendor showrooms when required. Guide clients in selecting cabinetry, countertops, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, hardware, flooring, paint, finishes, and color schemes. Help clients distinguish between wants, functional needs, contractual requirements, and optional upgrades. Create design concepts that remain realistic and consistent with the client's budget. Develop Chief Architect plans, including existing conditions, proposed layouts, elevations, lighting plans, electrical or rough-in diagrams, and installation details. Create precise "as-sold" 20-20 Design cabinetry plans with dimensions and detailed notes. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of cabinetry catalogs and specification books. Produce realistic 3D renderings, finish boards, and design presentations. Create tile layouts, shower elevations, niche details, and other installation-specific drawings. Measure spaces accurately and prepare error-free, construction-ready plans. Prepare detailed scopes of work identifying what will remain, be removed, relocated, modified, furnished, and installed. Prepare comprehensive material lists for each project. Record manufacturers, product names, SKUs, quantities, dimensions, finishes, purchasing sources, and installation locations. Research product pricing, availability, compatibility, and lead times. Prepare allowance reports for materials that remain to be selected. Update material pricing as the design progresses. Confirm that the final drawings, scope of work, material list, and client approvals are consistent. Upload completed design packages, material lists, scopes, and supporting documents to the appropriate Asana project. Maintain organized design notes and document unresolved questions. Meet with the Project Coordinator to formally review and hand off the completed design package. Correct drawing, scope, or material discrepancies before products are ordered. Participate in pre-order and preconstruction meetings when design clarification is required. Coordinate with the Project Manager and field team when constructability questions arise. Remain available during construction to answer design-related questions. Update drawings and specifications when approved changes occur. Review incoming materials for accuracy, completeness, finish, and visible damage. Report incorrect, incomplete, delayed, or damaged materials promptly. Track the time spent on each client and provide summarized weekly project reports. Plan work in advance and estimate the time required for additional client requests. Adhere to established project schedules and communicate potential delays proactively. Produce Matterport before-and-after walkthroughs when required. Capture project photographs before construction. Assist with coordinating and staging completed-project photography. Maintain the showroom and keep displays, samples, and vendor materials organized and presentable. Replace discontinued, outdated, incorrect, or damaged showroom samples. Receive, label, organize, and display new vendor samples. Monitor and restock vendor catalogs, brochures, care instructions, and other printed materials.
