Your specialized skills will make a significant impact by facilitating clear communication and fostering an inclusive environment for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
What We're Looking For:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpretation accuracy Previous experience working in a school or educational environment Ability to interpret in both classroom and one-on-one settings Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state equivalent) preferred Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism Flexibility to adapt interpreting style to various age groups and learning abilities Collaborative attitude for working closely with teachers, support staff, and students
Role Responsibilities:
Provide interpretation between spoken English and ASL for students, faculty, and parents Support access to classroom instruction, assemblies, extracurricular activities, and meetings Foster understanding and participation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in interpreting Assist educators in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) as needed Offer guidance on Deaf culture awareness to school staff when appropriate
