Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school-based environment near Thomaston, GA. This contract position invites skilled professionals passionate about fostering accessible and inclusive learning to collaborate closely with educators and students.
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational or school settings. Familiarity with interpreting for a range of age groups and learning needs. Ability to adhere to confidentiality and ethical standards. Current licensure or national certification (such as EIPA, RID, or NIC), as required by state and district guidelines. Strong communication, organization, and collaborative skills.
Core Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) to ensure full participation of deaf and hard-of-hearing students in classroom instruction and activities. Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers during lectures, group work, presentations, and extracurricular programs. Adjust interpreting style and pace to match the individual needs of students and the educational setting. Contribute insights to individualized education plan (IEP) meetings and ongoing progress discussions when requested. Maintain transparent records and collaborate with other educational professionals for student success. Uphold confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
