Job Description

Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to a meaningful opportunity supporting a bright young learner! We're seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to provide one-on-one support to a kindergarten student in a welcoming school setting. This contract position offers full-time hours, blending direct ASL services with valuable paraprofessional support to ensure every school day is a success. In this engaging role, you will: Deliver one-on-one ASL interpretation for a kindergarten student just beginning their journey in a new district Provide classroom support and facilitate communication between the student, peers, and teachers Serve as a paraprofessional during times when direct interpreting isn't required, assisting with daily learning activities and routines Collaborate closely with educators to create an inclusive, accessible learning environment Monitor progress and adapt support strategies as the student's schedule and needs evolve Start by providing interpreting services one day per week, expanding as the student's attendance increases (anticipated full classroom participation after December) To be considered, you should have: Valid Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) certification for Indiana A 3.5 or higher EIPA score; candidates in progress may be considered if a written exam date is set Experience working with young children or in an educational setting preferred Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills A commitment to fostering a positive, supportive learning experience You'll have the chance to make a lasting impact in a nurturing, student-focused environment while honing your skills.
