On-call/as-needed position. Most on-site assignments are expected during normal BACH operating hours, generally Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM , excluding Federal holidays. Candidates must also be able to respond to scheduled and occasional short-notice assignments. Some assignments exceeding approximately two hours may require two interpreters.
Summary:
The Certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter will provide professional sign-language interpretation services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing patients, employees, family members, medical personnel, and other authorized individuals at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and associated clinics. Services may be provided in person or through video interpretation and may include ASL, Signed English, or Pidgin Signed English depending on the individual's communication needs.
Requirements:
Must possess appropriate professional ASL interpreter certification/credentials , such as
RID, NIC, NIC
Advanced, NIC Master, CI, CT, CI/CT, CSC, NAD, or another recognized certification as applicable. Must demonstrate strong and documented knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to interpret spoken English into sign language and signed communication into spoken English. Must demonstrate professional conduct, confidentiality, clear communication skills, and competency appropriate for interpretation in a medical environment.
Duties:
Provide professional on-site ASL interpretation for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals. Provide video sign-language interpretation when requested. Interpret spoken English into ASL, Signed English, or Pidgin Signed English as appropriate. Accurately voice signed communication into spoken English for medical personnel and other authorized individuals. Maintain complete confidentiality and provide accurate, impartial interpretation without adding, omitting, or changing information.
