Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Bring your expertise in sign language to an enriching educational environment where your skills will make a daily impact in the life of a young learner. This contract role is designed for a dedicated American Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Paraprofessional who is ready to support a Deaf student in an elementary school setting. Working Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., you will be an essential bridge for communication, enhancing the student's access to learning and social interaction throughout the school day.
Desired Qualifications:
EIPA score of 2.5 or higher, or a degree in interpreting, with clear ASL fluency Ability to demonstrate sign language fluency during the interview process Previous experience working in a K-12 or educational setting is highly valued Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a passion for supporting children with hearing differences An understanding of classroom dynamics and a collaborative mindset when working with teachers and staff
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct sign language interpretation for a Deaf elementary student, ensuring full participation in classroom and school activities Adapt interpreting practices to meet the specific needs of the student and learning environment Collaborate closely with educators and support staff to create inclusive learning opportunities Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreting standards and ethical guidelines Contribute to the student's social, academic, and emotional well-being by fostering open communication Experience the reward of directly supporting a student's academic journey and growth.
