Job Description

Jus One Academy is seeking a reliable, professional Spanish Interpreter/Translator to support the ELEVATE after-school and family-engagement program at J.C. Parks Elementary School. This individual will help Spanish-speaking students and families communicate effectively with program staff and participate fully in program activities.
Position Details Location:
Indian Head, MD 20640 Work setting: In person
Schedule:
Selected Saturdays, generally 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Program period:
October 1, 2026-June 30, 2027
Compensation:
$25 per approved and documented service hour
Classification:
Part-time independent contractor Estimated allocation: Up to 100 approved hours, based on program needs and available funding Primary Responsibilities Provide accurate Spanish-English interpretation during family-engagement activities, student programming, meetings, orientations, and special events. Assist Spanish-speaking families with understanding program schedules, expectations, forms, announcements, and available resources. Translate approved program communications and short documents between English and Spanish. Support communication between families, instructors, program leadership, and community partners. Maintain the meaning, tone, and confidentiality of all interpreted or translated information. Use only approved shared communication channels when communicating with students and families. Protect student and family information in accordance with FERPA, Jus One Academy policies, and applicable CCPS requirements. Document approved service hours through Jibble or another designated timekeeping system. Submit accurate monthly invoices by the established deadline. Attend required orientation, onboarding, and program meetings. Immediately report safety, confidentiality, communication, or program concerns to the designated supervisor. Perform other interpretation or translation duties directly related to the ELEVATE program, as approved. Required Qualifications Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English. Ability to interpret conversations accurately and professionally in both languages. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work respectfully with elementary-aged students and families from diverse backgrounds. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Dependability and availability during assigned program hours. Ability to use email, shared documents, and basic timekeeping systems. Successful completion or verification of all required background checks, fingerprinting, badging, and onboarding requirements before beginning service. Preferred Qualifications Previous interpretation or translation experience in a school, youth program, nonprofit organization, or family-services setting. Experience working with multilingual students and families. Familiarity with education, student-support, or community-resource terminology. Professional interpreter or translator training or certification is preferred but not required.
