YEAR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide effective ASL interpretation for a Deaf individual in the school and classroom environment, based upon age and language usage abilities. 1) Provide effective ASL interpretation for classroom announcements, assemblies, field trips, and other school related activities. 2) Collaborates with teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff to ensure student needs are met in areas of academic instruction. 3) Be willing to preview educational and curricular materials as shared by educators to interpret effectively. 4) Sharing community resources and educational information with parents of students with disabilities. 5) Collaborate with teachers, principals and other support staff to ensure understanding of student needs and best practices to address access to language in whole group, small group and individualized settings. 6) Continuous learning regarding best practices in educational interpreting. 7) Other duties as assigned by administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited interpreter training program. Must present a clean and current BCI/FBI background check Associate Licensing as an Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired in the State of Ohio. Abilities and attributes to promote positive internal and external customer relations, including creating effective interpersonal relationships and projecting a professional image. Proficiency in American Sign Language. Previous experience in an educational setting preferred Ability to interpret classroom lessons, and other information with accuracy and professionalism. Work cooperatively with outside sources, parents, and staff, including agencies and other school districts as well as personnel from all. Demonstrate the ability for communication skills including efficient signing, speaking, writing, computer and telephone skills.
