Sign Language Interpreter in Conway, SC

Job Description

Provide vital communication support for students as an American Sign Language Interpreter in a fulfilling contract opportunity. Working closely within a supportive educational environment, you'll ensure access and inclusion for a student requiring interpreting services, creating a meaningful difference in their daily school experience. This position is based at an elementary school and is structured as a long-term substitute opportunity. Start date will depend on when the current interpreter takes leave. Candidates should be ready to step in and provide seamless support when needed.
Desired Qualifications:
Holds EIPA certification with a score of 3.5 or higher (required) Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation within educational settings Experience working with children or in school environments strongly preferred Ability to follow student schedules and collaborate effectively with teaching staff Professional, reliable, and ready to adapt to changing assignments
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one ASL interpreting services for a designated student according to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Translate classroom instruction, student interactions, and school communications from spoken English to ASL and vice versa Adapt interpreting style to student's developmental stage and language needs Maintain ethical standards of interpreter conduct, including confidentiality and impartiality Serve as a bridge for communication between students, staff, and peers, supporting an inclusive learning atmosphere This assignment offers the opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on a student's learning, within a collaborative and welcoming school community.
