Director of Electrical Services The Opportunity This is not a typical Monday Friday electrical job. You'll be part of the team that powers and supports trade shows, conventions, corporate events, weddings, outdoor events, and other large-scale productions. You'll work directly with the Director of Electrical Services and learn how temporary electrical systems, event lighting, generators, and power distribution are installed and operated in real-world event environments. You'll be hands-on from day one - working with tools, equipment, cables, temporary power systems, lighting, and event setups. As you build your skills, you'll take on more responsibility and become a key part of Expo's electrical services operation. What You'll Do Install, distribute, secure, and remove temporary electrical systems at trade shows and events. Assist with temporary power distribution throughout convention centers, exhibit halls, tents, outdoor venues, and event spaces. Support electrical power for trade-show booths, exhibitors, vendors, lighting, and event equipment. Assist with connecting temporary distribution equipment to approved venue power sources under qualified supervision. Set up and distribute power from portable and towable generators. Install and remove event lighting such as string lights, chandeliers, decorative lighting, and suspended lighting. Run, protect, organize, and remove electrical cable and temporary power equipment. Help determine the appropriate power and equipment needed for individual events. Inspect cables, connectors, electrical equipment, and distribution equipment for damage or unsafe conditions. Load, unload, organize, prepare, and maintain electrical equipment and supplies. Troubleshoot basic electrical and lighting issues with guidance from the Director of Electrical Services. Follow safety procedures, venue requirements, and applicable electrical/workplace safety standards. Work closely with Expo's operations, AV, trade show, sales, and event production teams. Represent the company professionally when working around clients, exhibitors, venues, and other vendors. What You Need Hands-on experience in trade shows, event production, electrical work, construction, maintenance, lighting, AV, installation, or a similar field. Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn new electrical concepts and procedures. Comfortable working with hand tools and power tools. Ability to safely work with ladders, lifts, cables, equipment, and event-production materials after training. Strong attention to detail and a serious approach to workplace and electrical safety. Dependable work ethic and the ability to follow instructions accurately. Ability to work independently once trained while also working effectively as part of a team. Clear communication and a professional attitude. Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Ability and willingness to complete additional training or certifications required for the position. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Know the Environment Before You Apply Event production runs on the event schedule - not a traditional workweek.

You must be comfortable working:

Days, evenings, early mornings, and overnight hours. Weekends and occasional holidays. Extended shifts during larger trade shows and events. Out-of-town events throughout California and other locations as business requires. Multi-day assignments that may include overnight hotel stays. Changing schedules based on the event calendar and client requirements. Flexibility is a major part of this position. One week may look completely different from the next depending on the events Expo is supporting. Physical & Hands-On Work This is an active field position, not a desk job.

You should be comfortable with:

Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment and materials. Working from ladders and approved elevated work platforms after training. Installing lighting and cable overhead. Standing and walking for extended periods. Bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working in tight or active environments. Working inside warehouses, convention centers, event venues, tents, and outdoor locations. Working in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Training & Growth You don't need to walk in knowing everything about event electrical services. Expo will provide hands-on training directly under the Director of Electrical Services. You'll develop practical experience in: Temporary Power Distribution Generator Power Event Lighting Cable Management Electrical Safety Troubleshooting Onsite Electrical Services As your skills grow, you'll be trusted with greater responsibility and more independent work. This role is a strong fit for someone who: Likes working with their hands. Learns quickly. Takes safety seriously. Doesn't mind getting dirty or working long event days.
