About the Role Edge AI is seeking an experienced, hands-on Production Manager to lead our production team while remaining a strong individual contributor on the floor. This is a true player-coach position, split roughly 30-50% management and 50-70% individual contribution (IC) — you will spend the majority of your time doing the work itself, and the rest leading the people who do it alongside you. The hands-on side is not optional. You need to be genuinely skilled at the work so that when you train, guide, or correct someone, you do it from real competence — the kind that earns respect and makes clear you deserve to lead. Leading by example is how this role sets the standard for quality and pace. In equal measure, this is a people-leadership role — keeping a team productive, making good calls under pressure, and clearing obstacles before they slow anyone down. Experience with fiber optics is a strong plus and highly encouraged — and hands-on technician work, broader mechanical experience, and prior management experience are all strong pluses as well. What matters most is the combination of genuine hands-on skill and the judgment, organization, and people skills to lead a small production team well.

What You Will Be Responsible For:

Leadership & Management (approx. 30-50% of the role) Overseeing your team day to day and making sure everyone is working efficiently and productively Getting the best out of your people — leading firmly but fairly, with the people skills to motivate rather than alienate Making sound, competent decisions and taking real ownership of running the production floor Identifying the root cause of issues and slow-downs, and solving them proactively so your team can succeed quickly Taking feedback and criticism constructively, and staying strong in high-stress situations — continuing on the best path forward rather than stalling, complaining, or shutting down Keeping the production area clean and organized — tools in their proper places, everything in order, and your technicians' workstations kept clean and organized as well Staying organized and efficient yourself, both on the floor and digitally, across tracking, documentation, and tools Developing, supporting, and mentoring your technicians Scheduling daily meetings to quickly assess the current situation, assign action items, and solve blockers Quickly identifying issues with builds and equipment, and providing feedback to the engineering team Making sure the team upholds safety standards and works safely at all times Hands-On Contribution — Leading by Example (approx. 50-70% of the role) Doing the work yourself: building, testing, and repairing equipment right alongside your team Setting the standard for quality, care, and pace through your own hands-on work Stepping in on the most difficult or critical builds and repairs, and showing others how it is done Overseeing the Team's Work Making sure the team builds, tests, and repairs all equipment and hardware to spec and on schedule Keeping the production area organized, well-stocked, and safe, with tasks and progress visible across the team Upholding and refining quality standards so every piece the team produces leaves in dependable condition, and driving continuous improvement in how the work gets done Qualifications & Experience for Success Proven, high-level hands-on mechanical ability with tools and equipment of all sizes — you must be able to do the work yourself to a standard others can learn from (required) The leadership and people skills to run a production floor and get the best out of a team, firmly but fairly (required) Sound judgment and decisiveness under pressure, including staying steady and moving forward through high-stress situations Strong organizational skills, both hands-on and digital Post-secondary education required — a completed trade or technical program, or a bachelor's degree (master's or beyond a plus)
