Full Job Description SUMMARY:
A working position responsible for the staff and volunteers focused on the preparation, maintenance, fabrication and presentation of displays and galleries which preserve the integrity and interpretative value of the artifacts throughout the Foundation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for providing professional oversight in the consulting, supervision, construction, installation, and deinstallation of the exhibits. Responsible for maintaining the existing exhibits and updating them as necessary. Responsible for managing exhibit technicians. Responsible for managing department volunteers in conjunction with the museum's Volunteer Coordinator. Responsible for the purchasing and delivery/pick-up coordination of department materials. Responsible for determining and adhering to deadlines. Responsible for helpful collaboration with other departments as necessary to achieve museum goals. Responsible for utilizing all types of fabricating methods and tools to build display cases, pedestals, platforms, and walls. Responsible for the maintenance of gallery walls, install exhibit furniture, text and graphic panels, artifacts. Must observe the careful handling and correct procedures associated with museum or exhibit objects. Responsible for routine cleaning of exhibits, and indoor display aircraft. Maintain compliance in the department workspaces with
ADOSH, OSHA, ADEQ, PDEQ, SDS
sheets and other applicable regulations, including training and safety monitoring, Chemical Inventories, and ensure appropriate removal, disposal and handling of chemicals. Maintain a clean and orderly workshop, ensuing all supplies, tools and safety gear are in good working condition Operate and as well as train staff on light equipment (Forklift, scissor lift & front loaders) Coordinate with the other departments for information on visitor disruptions caused by Exhibits activities in the gallery spaces. Use the appropriate communications methods in order to alert other responsible departments to ensure that required repairs and maintenance to museum facilities and, equipment and vehicles are accomplished. Utilize the appropriate methods to communicate emergencies, request assistance to other responsible departments Special projects and other duties as requested, directed or assigned. Working with external specialist vendors such as graphics design and production companies and fabrication specialists.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Standard construction vocational skills, with emphasis on carpentry. Proficiency using fabricating equipment and tools Basic computer skills Basic understanding of exhibit and design techniques, tools, mechanisms, layout options, theme/purpose translation techniques, and interpretive, presentation and delivery requirements Ability to interact professionally with design/construction firms Experience with standard MS Office productivity programs, and standard graphic design software such as Adobe products. Ability to successfully overcome workplace challenges and employ professional problem-solving skills individually or collaboratively. Ability to perform assigned departmental tasks in a timely and efficient manner in order to achieve deadlines. Ability to analyze project requirements and prepare work time and financial estimates

  • Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs. without assistance, with the ability to lift to 80 lbs. as necessary with assistance.
  • Must be able to reach above head, down to the ground, and work with kneeing while using hand tools, power tools, and other equipment.
  • Must be able to perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven ground throughout the museum property.
  • Must be able to crawl, bend, stretch, and climb while performing routine tasks.
  • Must be able to work in non-air-conditioned areas throughout the year.
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and electric cart.
  • Must wear proscribed work uniforms and other personal protective equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Exhibits Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily activities of the department employees and volunteers.. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum is a High School Diploma, preferred is a 2 year associates degree or better.
  • Three (3) years in supervisory experience, and five (5) years' experience in general trade skills, or a certificate in master carpenter, welding, metal fabrication, or related field.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
  • Candidate will have the ability to read and comprehend moderate to complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Candidate will have the ability to effectively present information over the telephone and in person during one-on-one and small group situations.
