The ESL/ELL Adult Class Teacher will provide an opportunity to engage and build community through supporting our diverse group of parents/guardians in their acquisition of English speaking skills. The teacher will develop lesson plans and materials that will provide opportunities for parents/guardians to practice English and provide assistance, as needed, in reviewing school documents and communication. Family engagement in student academic achievement of all of our families is critical to academic success and this class will help support our efforts to include all families as valuable members of our school community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Guide participants in the acquisition of English and help participants to understand the target culture, while affirming their own cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Develop and administer survey to class participants to determine interests, needs, and abilities. Use survey data to help inform lesson plans and activities. Assist class participants in identifying and setting personal goals. Develop and implement lesson plans with diverse activities and methods to keep class participants engaged and are geared towards helping participants achieve their goals. Establish clear objectives and goals so class participants know what they can expect to achieve by attending classes. Observe and evaluate the progress of participants in order to make necessary adjustments to meet their needs. Must be available to answer participant questions related to the class over the phone or by e-mail. Can utilize school interpreter support in assisting with communication. Administer an end of course evaluation to participants in order to obtain feedback and improve the class in the future. Must submit lesson plans and activities to ELL Director on a weekly basis

Requirements:

Teaches 1 class per week at 1.5 hours each class. Classes are scheduled in the evening. In addition to class time, will be compensated for 1 hour of prep each week. Previous experience in teaching ESL/ELL required Previous experience teaching adults preferred ESL/ELL licensure or working toward licensure preferred Experience writing lesson plans required Demonstrates a positive attitude Must be adaptable and flexible Is a problem solver Has good organizational skills and is able to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively Must be able to operate independently Is an effective communicator Must be dependable and show up to class on time
