POSITION
: Part-Time, 3 hours per day, 2 days per week, for 6 total contact hours per week. 15 minutes of flexible prep time paid per contact hour, for up to 1.5 hours per week 1:00 PM
  • 4:00 PM as preferred, but morning schedule may be accommodated; Monday & Tuesday, Tuesday and Wednesday or Monday and Wednesday

QUALIFICATIONS
Current appropriate Minnesota teaching license required: K-12 license or Adult Basic Education Teaching License
JOB SUMMARY
Prepare, develop, and provide Adult Basic Education coursework to learners of varying education levels in an adult correctional facility Monitor and respond to participant interests via registration kiosk and referrals Analyze individual educational needs to develop educational goals Individualize lessons and curriculum to most effectively meet participant needs Provide small group and one-on-one instruction to include reading, writing, math, science, and social studies instruction aligned with GED and College and Career Readiness Standards Create, maintain and update accurate student records in the Minnesota SiD database, including student profiles, attendance, achievements, academic goals, etc. Assist participants in planning for continuing education for after their release Administer pre
  • and post-testing according to program requirements
  • in coordination with other staff members Work closely with jail staff to create and maintain a safe and secure learning environment Understand and respect cultural differences while providing culturally responsive services
QUALIFICATIONS
Minnesota ABE or K-12 license Bachelor's degree or higher in education or related field Two or more years experience with teaching or training adults Ability to work effectively and independently while communicating clearly and professionally in both spoken and written formats Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to adapt curriculum and instruction to support learners with different abilities, learning styles, and disabilities
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience working with adult learners toward GED Familiarity with College and Career Readiness Standards and Minnesota ABE policies Experience with standardized assessments, including CASAS Experience providing instruction in multiple areas, including science, mathematics, social studies, language arts, and computer literacy Experience working with learners from diverse cultural backgrounds and/or students in correctional education settings Experience using online learning platforms, such as IXL or Northstar Digital Literacy Commitment to
