YOUTH SERVICES COORDINATOR

Job Description

Works in a professional capacity to provide library services to children and young adults; including reference, reader's advisory, programming, community activities, and collection development. In accordance with policies and practices established by the Library Board, monitors and evaluates services to youth; promotes and publicizes the youth services program in schools and the community. Provides assistance at the front desk performing circulation, reference, and computer help duties as needed. Reports to the Executive Director. Typical Job duties Develops and conducts a variety of library programs for children of all ages, including school year and summer reading programs and special programs at various sites within the County. Develops cooperative programs with the local school and other community youth services. Assists and instructs children and adults in the use of library services and resources. Conducts library tours for children including school visits. Provides input in the collection development of juvenile and young adult collections. Keeps informed of trends in children and young adult literature, library services, and issues affecting them. Attends professional training and conferences. Collaborates with the Executive Director and other staff for special projects, grant opportunities, and statistical reports. Assists at the front desk as needed. Additional Duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of library procedures and processes. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new or updated computer applications as needed. Demonstrated knowledge of children's literature, storytelling, educational programing and activities. Ability to prioritize duties and resources with guidance from the Executive Director. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and direct others in simple tasks. Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and effective manner. Minimum qualifications A degree from an accredited college or university and/or equivalent combination of education and/or training in childhood education, development, and literacy. Experience working in a library setting with children greatly preferred. Physical Requirements Requires talking and hearing clearly, including use of telephone; dexterity for word processing, writing, filing, and shelving; vision to see all levels of shelving and to see while using computer. Must be able to travel to both the Deltaville Branch and Urbanna Branch libraries, as well as other locations within Middlesex County. Salary Range Part time (3 days per week in Summer, 2 days per week in Fall, Winter, Spring).
Range:
$20.00 - $21.00 per hour, based on education and experience. Drug-free workplace; equal opportunity employer.

$20.00 - $21.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 - 21.0 per week
