Job Description

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

•Only candidates who apply via this link outside of Indeed will be considered: https://bit.ly/Jubilee_LeadFac_AppForm

POSITION OVERVIEW

The founding Lead Faculty will be Jubilee's first faculty hire. Reporting to the Co-Presidents and working alongside a Director of Operations & Programs, a team of co-founders and advisors, residential advisors, and visiting faculty, this person will have the opportunity to shape the college in every dimension: its curriculum and pedagogy, its residential culture, each student's learning experience, and the standards and practices that will define what it means to teach and learn at Jubilee for years to come. That is not a responsibility that comes along often in a professional career. It is, in the fullest sense, a founding role. The Lead Faculty will join by early 2027. That lead time is intentional, between early 2027 and late summer 2028 when the first class of 28 students arrives on campus. Jubilee's learning program — weaving together rigorous liberal arts study, hands-on service work, and contemplative practice into a single immersive experience — requires a faculty architecture, a curriculum, and a community culture that must be built with care before the first student arrives. But the work that begins in that pre-launch period is not preparation for the real thing. It is the beginning of a role that will grow and deepen with each successive cohort, each Heart Project, each student who leaves Jubilee and carries what they found here into the world.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

Jubilee College's first Lead Faculty will arrive not to step into an existing learning program but to build one. The college's founding vision, pedagogy, and values are well established; what this person will do is translate them into a living curriculum, a high-functioning approach to working with visiting faculty, and a student experience that delivers on everything Jubilee has committed to. The initial phase of work unfolds in two parts: designing and staffing the program through 2027, and launching it with the inaugural cohort in 2028. Curriculum Design and Program Architecture The Lead Faculty will be a primary architect — with the Co-Presidents — of Jubilee's transformative learning program, working from the college's established pedagogical framework to develop the full scope of its block plan curriculum, service work integration, and contemplative practice sequence. This is not an inherited program to administer. It is a new one to design, and the Lead Faculty will have both the latitude and the responsibility to shape it. Building a Faculty & Advisor Team Aligned with the Mission No single decision the Lead Faculty makes will matter more than who teaches and works closely with the students. Jubilee's faculty and advisor model is deliberately non-hierarchical and dynamic: at its core are the Lead Faculty and one additional core faculty member, flanked by a rotating cast of visiting block plan faculty, service work advisors, contemplative practice guides, and community partners who move through the program on a fluid, ever-renewing basis. The Lead Faculty's role is not to manage a standing department but to hold the container — maintaining clarity of objectives, ensuring continuity of experience for students, and integrating the contributions of a wide range of people who bring different gifts to different moments. Identifying, recruiting, and developing a rotating faculty-and-advisor team with the rare capacity to do that well is among the most consequential work this role will carry. Establishing the Jubilee Experience Jubilee's founding vision holds that education is not something that happens to students but something that happens with them, through shared work, shared meals, shared silence, and shared risk. The Lead Faculty will be responsible for bringing that vision to life with each successive cohort, establishing the patterns, culture, and expectations that will define what it means to be a Jubilee student. Institutional Development and Community The Lead Faculty will serve as an ambassador for Jubilee in the broadest sense, supporting fundraising and partner development, building relationships between the college and the Dunsmuir community, and helping establish Jubilee's presence as a new kind of institution in the landscape of American learning.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

At Jubilee, teaching, service work, contemplative practice, and community life are not separate tracks but interwoven dimensions of a single experience. The Lead Faculty moves through all of them, in the classroom building, on the river, at community council, and in the forested acres at the foot of Castle Crags. Sustaining that kind of full presence over time requires its own tending; personal time for rest, inspiration, and meaning-making is not incidental to this role but integral to it. Teaching and Curriculum Integrate the study, service work and contemplative practice components into a cohesive, personalized experience for each student Design and implement the 'block plan' curriculum for Year 1, coordinating eight immersive three-and-a-half-week courses Recruit and manage visiting faculty to teach first-year block courses, ensuring alignment with Jubilee's pedagogy and values Evaluate qualitative learning outcomes against objectives developed collaboratively with students at the start of each year Renew and revitalize the curriculum continuously, always seeking the next creative step Student Advising & Heart Projects Advise and mentor each student individually, facilitating transformative learning for the cohort as a whole Oversee students' second-year Heart Projects, supervising multidisciplinary research, connecting students with advisors, and preparing them for post-graduation apprenticeship Support students in identifying and entering formal apprenticeships matched to their individual gifts and intentions Faculty & Advisor Coordination Hire one core faculty member in mid-2027 to serve alongside the Lead Faculty as a permanent co-anchor of the learning program Recruit and onboard visiting faculty across the block plan calendar, ensuring each brings genuine alignment with Jubilee's pedagogy and values Coordinate service work advisors, contemplative practice guides, and community partners alongside visiting block faculty, holding all contributors to a shared standard of presence and intentionality Maintain clarity of learning objectives and follow-through across a rotating, non-hierarchical team of faculty and advisors Admissions and Prospective Student Engagement Play a key role in student outreach and the admissions process Co-host on-site programs for prospective students beginning April 2027, in partnership with the Director of Operations & Programs Co-host long weekends for students and parents/guardians in summer and fall 2027, in partnership with the Director of Operations & Programs Community Life and Governance Participate actively in residential and on-campus life across all seasons and settings Contribute to community governance, including decision-making, conflict resolution, budgeting, and community agreements Serve as a bridge between the College and the Dunsmuir community Build the wider learning community through partnerships with allies in the U.S. and internationally Institutional Support Play a support role in fundraising, partner development, and communications Share on-the-ground insights and flag emerging issues for the Co-Presidents, board, and advisors Applications are due by November 15, 2026 For more information on the position and instructions on HOW TO APPLY, view the full Opportunity Statement at https://www.strategenius.org/opportunity-jubilee-lead-faculty
