Assistant Registrar Idaho State Museum Boise, ID Job Details Temporary $22.50 an hour 23 hours ago Qualifications Legal analysis Legal compliance Editing Quality data entry Documentation reviews Full Job Description This position is a temporary, full-time, non-benefitted position, not-to-exceed a 5-month duration of employment. The anticipated employment timeframe is November 2026 - March 2027. Applications must include a resume and cover letter and be emailed to . Incomplete applications will not be considered. This Technical Records Specialist, with the working title of Assistant Registrar, participates in activities related to the Artifact Relocation Project, including documentation, physical movement, and long-term preservation of the ISHS permanent historic artifact collection. This position also researches and generates data to reconcile collections records, reports and records artifact movement, and ensures accurate labeling of all artifacts and their locations.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Assistant Registrar reports to the Curator of Collections and Exhibitions.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of the Curator of Collections & Exhibitions and in coordination with other program area staff, implements policies, procedures, and forms for museum collections management throughout the move of ISHS artifact collections, in alignment with the Agency's strategic plan and in accordance with professional standards set by the American Association of Museums. Catalogs artifacts, records object condition, and addresses basic care and storage of historic artifacts. Creates digital and paper-based inventories of artifacts to document location, movement, accession number, and other relevant information. Discovery Proficio, with a high degree of accuracy. Assess artifact stability to collaborate with contracted vendor for packing and unpacking of objects. Reviews and generates records of permanent collection movement created by staff and vendors throughout the duration of the project. Consults agency catalog records, inventories, loans, conservation reports, condition, and publication records of permanent collections objects and reconciles these files in physical and digital locations to support artifact movement and storage. Researches, verifies, and collects relevant information about historic artifacts for museum records to support appropriate artifact handling, movement, and storage practices. Assists in selecting archival products and methods to securely transport artifacts and ensure long-term preservation. Accessions, registers, and labels collection artifacts as needed to ensure objects are accurately tracked throughout the move. Prepares artifacts for long-term preservation using archival boxes, mounts, supports, trays, and other materials. Documents each artifact's final location in new collections stewardship facility. Identifies and documents conservation needs identified throughout the move.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience monitoring record systems to identify and correct errors;
  • Interpreting, explaining, and applying laws, regulations, and complex policies for multiple or highly specialized programs;
  • Analyzing information and researching a variety of sources to identify and resolve problems or issues;
  • Entering and retrieving data using a computerized record system;
  • Composing and proofreading business correspondence
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience caring for and handling historic artifacts.
  • Experience planning and assisting in art/artifact movement.
  • Experience working with computerized museum database systems.
Pay:
$22.50 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
