The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being subject to the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (SHRA). Those serving in this role will perform copy, complex, and original cataloging of monographs, special collections items, media, and other advanced formats such as maps and games. They will lead media cataloging, including streaming video and DVDs. They will collaborate with Special and Digital Collections to coordinate the workflow for Southern Appalachian Digital Collections (SADC), including metadata creation, review, and import. They will contribute to creating metadata for WCU's institutional repository, Scholar Central. This position will use several resources for their work including Alma, OCLC Connexion, Qi by Keepthinking, hykuUP, and ArchivesSpace. Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position Must have the ability to apply MARC coding in bibliographic and authority records. Requires experience with searching and editing records in WorldCat and integrated library systems (ILSs). Requires knowledge and experience with cataloging software such as Connexion/Record Manager, Alma, ArchivesSpace, and MarcEdit. Requires knowledge of and experience in applying the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) or other classification systems, such as the Dewey Decimal. Requires knowledge of and experience in applying Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and other LC vocabularies and the ability to navigate software such as OCLC Connexion and Classification Web to search these. Must be able to search and use other authority files such as OCLC's Faceted Application of Subject Terminology (FAST), Homosaurus, Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus (AAT), U.S. Board on Geographic Names (USGS), GeoNames, and LC Thesaurus for Graphic Materials (TGM). Requires knowledge of cataloging audiovisual materials such as streaming video and DVDs, including familiarity with resources provided by OLAC (On-line Audiovisual Catalogers, Inc.) Requires knowledge of non-MARC metadata schema, such as Dublin Core, and the ability to create, review, normalize, and ingest metadata for a digital collections platform and institutional repository. Must be able to coordinate and implement metadata workflows in collaboration with others across the library. Must keep up with evolving software tools and descriptive standards needed for cataloging. Must be able to perform work requiring accuracy and considerable attention to detail without close supervision. Must be able to work in a production-oriented environment. Must have a proven ability to maintain effective working relations with coworkers and supervisors. Graduation from a four-year college or university and one year of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or high school and five years experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Anticipated Hiring Range $49,650 Position Type Permanent Full-Time Number of Hours per Week 40 Number of Months per Year 12 Salary Band Range $34,133 - $73,667 Salary Grade For administrative purposes during the implementation of Career Banding this journey level position is considered a Salary Grade 68.
