Collections Specialist Reports to Executive Director Non-Exempt status. 16 hours per week, Monday through Friday, flexible days/hours, some weekends for special programs and events.
Office Location:
The primary office location is the Log Cabin Research Library but this position frequently works at the Burrows House Museum, the Carriage House object storage facility, and the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center.
Pay:
$19-21 an hour, paid monthly
Benefits:
Vacation accrued based on hours worked. One hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a cap of 40 hours per year. Major holidays paid when they align with regular scheduled work days.
Position Summary :
This role is a key position in the functioning of the Historical Society. An ideal candidate will have strong data entry skills, an aptitude for learning new programs, and some experience in archives. Adjacent skills, like Library Science or Art History will be considered. The Collections Specialist spends much time working alone processing cultural and historical artifacts, documents and photos, but also participates in creative and staff meetings. Meets with donors and accepts/processes new object, photograph, document, and library donations
Responds to research and photographic reproduction requests in a prompt manner.
Updates Past Perfect museum software and enters new and updated information
Develop procedures for cataloging collections and numbering systems in Past Perfect
Oversees volunteers in collections related projects, including digitization and organizing
Works on collections inventory projects
Creates order lists for archival material as needed
Cares for the collection by using professional museum standards
Changes dehumidifiers, conducts insect control, and other collections care
Creates social media content related to the collection
Manages a digital archive of photos and documents 10% Exhibit Installation Assistance
Assists in artifact handling during exhibit installation
Enters objects on display into Past Perfect
Assists in the movement and handling of display cases 10% Miscellaneous Duties
Assists Executive Director, Curator and other staff in museum related tasks as needed
Participate in creative team planning meetings
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 16.0 per week
