EXEMPT X NON EXEMPT JOB DESCRIPTION
The Visual Arts Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality visual arts instruction to students. The teacher will provide opportunities for students to develop artistic skills, creativity, and an appreciation for the visual arts through a variety of media and techniques aligned with Alabama Course of Study standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and implement engaging, standards-based visual arts instruction
Teach elements and principles of design,. drawing, painting, sculpture, and other media
Foster creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression
Organize and display student artwork in classrooms, schools, and exhibitions
Assess and monitor student progress; maintain accurate records
Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and positive classroom environment
Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and Fine Arts Department personnel
Maintain art supplies, equipment, and inventory
Ensure proper use and safety of art materials and tools
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress
Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school activities
Support district and school initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of visual arts concepts, techniques, and instructional strategies
Ability to teach a variety of art media and adapt instruction for diverse learners
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Ability to foster creativity and student engagement
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of safety procedures related to art materials and equipment
Ability to integrate technology into instruction
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Art Education or related field from an accredited college or university Valid Alabama Class B Professional Educator Certificate in Visual Arts (or eligibility to obtain) Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and pass required background Checks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience teaching visual arts at the elementary or middle school level
Experience with a variety of art media (e.g., painting, ceramics, digital art)
Experience organizing student exhibitions or art showcases
Strong background in studio art and/or art education
