This role is ideal for an artist-educator who loves working three-dimensionally and is excited to teach children and teens within a creative, process-based studio. This position includes consistent summer camp leadership and the opportunity to teach year-round classes and workshops , with room to expand as our 3D offerings grow. About the Role This instructor will serve as our primary teacher for 3D art, with a strong emphasis on clay and sculpture. Clay projects make up approximately 50% of our 3D programming, so experience with handbuilding techniques and surface design is essential. Familiarity with the pottery wheel is a plus. In addition to clay, the ideal candidate is comfortable teaching sculptural work using materials such as wire, wood, cardboard, recycled materials, and simple STEAM or kinetic elements. While this role is centered on 3D art, there are opportunities for additional teaching (painting, mixed media) for instructors who are interested. Summer Camp Responsibilities (June-August) During the summer, this role functions as an Art Camp Leader , teaching one camp per week, Monday-Friday, June-August, for approximately 20 hours per week over 10 weeks . Camp Leaders follow a pre-established curriculum while adapting projects to meet the needs, abilities, and interests of each group. You will work closely with an Art Camp Assistant to ensure a smooth, engaging, and supportive camp experience.

Responsibilities include:

Leading daily 3D and mixed media art projects Guiding groups of 12-16 campers through multi-step creative processes Supervising campers and ensuring safety and well-being Maintaining an organized, welcoming studio environment Supporting a creative, process-based approach to art School-Year Teaching Opportunities During the academic year, this role typically includes: Teaching weekly 3D art or clay classes Opportunities to lead weekend workshops Optional involvement in birthday parties or special events As our clay and sculpture program grows, there is potential for expanded hours and increased compensation . Key Responsibilities Teach clay, sculpture, and mixed media projects for ages 6-18 Demonstrate handbuilding techniques, construction methods, and creative problem-solving Provide clear, age-appropriate instruction while encouraging individual expression Collaborate with assistants on setup, cleanup, and material management Foster a positive, inclusive, and creative studio culture Communicate professionally with families when needed Uphold studio safety standards and organizational systems Skills & Qualifications Strong working knowledge of clay and 3D sculpture (handbuilding required) Familiarity with glazing, ceramics processes, and kiln workflow Experience with sculptural materials such as wire, wood, cardboard, or recycled media Willingness to learn new art techniques, as needed Comfort teaching children and teens in group settings Patient, flexible, and confident classroom presence Ability to manage time, materials, and group flow Physical ability to stand for multi-hour classes and lift supplies as needed Education & Experience Must be 25 years or older High school diploma or equivalent required At least 3 years of experience working with children (education, camps, youth programs, etc.) Art degree welcomed but not required (self-taught artists encouraged to apply) CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before start date) Pay & Schedule Training rate: $16/hour Teaching / leadership rate: $28/hour Part-time position with daytime weekday hours

Summer:

~20 hours/week for 10 weeks School year: variable hours based on class schedule, include evenings and weekends Non-paid lunch breaks provided during applicable shifts.
