SUMMARY Hourly rate to be determined based on discipline. This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends. If a degree, certification or licensure is required, the provision of official transcripts and/or certifications must be received in the Office of Human Resources within (30) days of hire. Applicants with academic credentials from non-U.S. accredited institutions are required to have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. "equivalency." All international credential evaluations must be conducted by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES®) in order to be considered for a faculty position. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES SUMMARY
Alvin College seeks a pool of qualified and engaging Part-Time Instructors in the Continuing Education Workforce Development Department to teach conversational Spanish courses and community or workforce training programs. The instructor will provide practical, learner-centered instruction focused on speaking, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, cultural awareness, and communication in everyday, workplace, travel, and community settings. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week and is as needed based on community needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach assigned conversational Spanish courses using practical, real-world communication activities appropriate for beginning and developing adult learners. Develop and deliver engaging instruction emphasizing speaking, listening, pronunciation, practical vocabulary, and conversational confidence. Facilitate learning activities related to greetings and introductions, everyday conversations, describing people and places, daily routines, school and community interactions, directions, travel, and other common situations. Incorporate cultural awareness and appropriate cultural context into language instruction. Use Blackboard and other approved instructional technology to provide course materials, vocabulary practice, oral activities, review exercises, and supplemental learning resources. Adapt instructional strategies and activities to support students with varying levels of prior Spanish-language experience. Design and evaluate activities, assignments, and assessments that demonstrate achievement of established learning outcomes. Maintain accurate student records, attendance, grades, and other required documentation. Provide feedback, guidance, and support that encourage student participation, confidence, and success. Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for diverse adult and community learners. Remain current with effective language-learning practices, instructional resources, and relevant technology. Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written Spanish and English sufficient to provide conversational language instruction. Relevant professional experience using Spanish in education, training, business, community, translation/interpretation, customer service, or another applicable setting. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, facilitate conversation, and explain language concepts to beginning adult learners. Ability to use or learn Blackboard or another learning management system and basic instructional technology. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of practical Spanish vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and conversational usage. Ability to teach speaking and listening skills through interactive, real-world activities. Knowledge of cultural practices and perspectives relevant to Spanish-speaking communities. Strong presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to engage students with varying educational and language-learning backgrounds. Ability to use Blackboard and instructional technology to support hybrid learning. Commitment to student success, community engagement, and lifelong learning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate or bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, Linguistics, Translation/Interpretation, or a related field. Previous teaching, training, tutoring, facilitation, or instructional experience. Experience teaching Spanish as a second language or providing conversational language instruction. Experience working with adult learners, workforce development programs, community education, or community college students. Relevant language, teaching, translation, interpretation, or other industry-recognized certifications or credentials. Experience with online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced instruction.
