Job Description

General Statement of Duties Provides instructional services and classroom leadership in the absence of the regular classroom teacher for an extended period (minimum of 21 days). The substitute assumes responsibility for planning and delivering instruction, managing the learning environment, assessing student progress, and maintaining communication with school administration, staff, students, and families. This position ensures continuity of educational services while supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of students. Essential Duties Assume responsibility for all instructional duties of the regular classroom teacher during the assigned period. Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-based lessons aligned with district curriculum and state learning standards. Create and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student learning and engagement. Implement effective classroom management techniques and maintain appropriate student discipline. Assess student performance and maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and progress. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, counselors, special education staff, and support personnel. Attend faculty meetings, professional development activities, parent conferences, and other school-related functions as required. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations. Adhere to district policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations. Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee. Regular attendance is required. Additional Information The daily rate for this position is $274.52.

CANDIDATE MUST WORK 21-CONSECUTIVE INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS IN THE SAME CLASS TO BE PAID BOARD SUB RATE.
Henrico County Schools reserves the right to begin screening applications and make a selection at any time during the posting period. Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible, as positions may be filled prior to the posted closing date. Minimum Requirements Must be at least 18 years old and have a bachelor's degree. Must be able to deliver engaging and effective instruction and establish positive relationships with students, families and staff. Proficiency with educational technology and systems, ability to analyze student data, prior knowledge of instructional practices, classroom management, and student assessment methods are preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand, walk, bend and move about the classroom for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry instructional materials and supplies up to 25 pounds occasionally. Must be able to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
