Special Education Certification Full Job Description Part-Time High School Math & Applied Business Teacher SUMMARY:

We are seeking an energetic, creative, and collaborative math teacher to lead traditional math instruction and guide students to integrate those math skills into a real-world experience through our student-run café. In this dual role, you will teach students about budgeting, tracking inventory, calculating profit/loss, scaling recipes, and converting between units. Additionally, you will instruct students in obtaining their ServSafe Certification and using basic cooking skills in the kitchen.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

): 1. Core Classroom Instruction Teach engaging, standards-based applied math courses (ex: financial literacy and basic math) Design curriculum that bridges theoretical math concepts with practical applications in hospitality, culinary arts, business management, and everyday life Assess student understanding using diverse tools, including traditional testing, performance-based tasks, and hands-on portfolio projects 2. Applied Math and Café Program Operations Oversee the math and business operations of the student-run café Mentor students in applying math to business tasks, including: o Reconciling cash register o Tracking daily revenue o Pricing, including batch scaling, unit cost, and recipe costing o Purchasing and tracking inventory o Converting between metric and standard units Guide students in reviewing profit/loss statements to optimize the café's performance 3. Student Support and Classroom Management Foster an inclusive, safe, and collaborative learning environment that supports students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds Scaffold complex mathematical concepts so that all students can succeed both in the classroom and in the fast-paced café setting Emphasize soft skills alongside technical math skills, including teamwork, critical thinking, accountability, and problem-solving under real-time constraints 4. Write progress reports for each student 5. Ensure students are working towards individualized goals 6. Differentiate assignments and instruction to accommodate student learning needs 7. Maintain pertinent records including daily lesson plans and attendance 8. Attend and participate in trainings and workshops as scheduled by school administration 9. Prepare for annual and triennial IEPs, including assessing students, writing present levels, drafting new goals, and working in conjunction with IEP team members to ensure compliance with district and state laws. 10. Attend parent conferences 11. Participate in other school events and activities

QUALIFICATIONS

(EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS):

Education:

Bachelor's degree in math, math education, STEM, or a related field required, Master's degree preferred Valid California Education Specialist teaching credential required Must be able to pass the ServSafe Certification test One to three years of special education classroom teaching experience preferred Prior experience or background in business management, culinary arts, entrepreneurship, or CTE program coordination is strongly preferred Strong mastery of middle/high school math and practical financial literacy Proficiency with spreadsheet tools (Google Sheets, MS Excel) and Point of Sale (POS) reporting systems Strong project management and student mentoring capabilities Ability to teach basic food recipes (ex: sandwiches, soups, salads, and snacks) Ability to teach students with a hands-on, project-based approach Enthusiasm for hands-on learning and turning real-world operational challenges into teachable math moments Comfortable working across classroom settings and active, non-traditional learning environments such as the kitchen and cafe Able to write clearly (typing and by hand), read and comprehend textbooks, manuals, and reports, and speak comfortably with colleagues, students, and parents Organizational skills required Must be able to use logic, problem-solving skills, and communicate effectively in a sensitive, courteous manner with colleagues, parents, and students even in difficult situations Job requires a combination of sitting, standing, kneeling, lifting (up to 20 lbs.), and walking Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-task, deadline-oriented environment Able to tolerate a moderate level of noise and movement Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Other information: Part time, 10 month position (4 hours per day), Reports to
