No supervisory responsibilities General Responsibilities Massachusetts Maritime Academy invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Natural Sciences beginning Spring 2027. The position is a 4/4 teaching load that includes teaching college-level natural science courses (primarily chemistry and biology) from introductory to advanced levels. Candidates must be able to to teach an academic course load of 12 credits per semester (fall and spring) of college-level chemistry and biology courses. Primary teaching responsibilities include introductory chemistry and biology courses including laboratories. Candidates must also be able to teach upper-level chemistry courses including Environmental Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Ideal candidates will also be capable of teaching physics courses and laboratories.
Other job responsibilities include:
regular curriculum development and improvement, commitment to professional development, service to the Academy community, participation in the governance process and advising of 10-20 first year students. All teaching positions at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy require computer literacy, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an understanding of the Academy's unique mission. Qualifications and Requirements Hold an earned doctorate in a cross-disciplinary chemistry and biological field; candidates with an earned doctorate in a related field or doctoral candidates with demonstration of progress toward degree will be considered. Demonstrate ability to teach introductory chemistry lectures, biology and laboratory courses. Able to teach developmental and upper college level science courses. Demonstrate commitment to support student learning and to promote student success. Have excellent computer skills and oral and written communication skills. Demonstrate potential to fulfill evaluation criteria for teaching and advising at the college level. Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience of at least three years at the post-secondary level. Ability to teach across multiple science disciplines including physics. Understanding of and dedication to the Academy's unique mission. Experience with assessment of student learning . Experience teaching in both face-to-face and online modalities.
