Located two miles north of Sonora in the gold country of the Sierra Nevada Foothills, Columbia Elementary School relocated in-1936 when a new school building was constructed on Parrotts Ferry Road. Over the years the campus has expanded to meet the needs of the growing district. In 2007, the district completed the construction of 19 state-of-the-art classrooms and an Education, Sports, and Performing Arts Complex. Columbia Elementary focuses on the success of the whole child. The parents, staff, and students focus on creating unique learning opportunities to ensure students leave our school ready for high school and beyond. Job Summary Job Summary Position Summary The Middle School Wrestling Coach is responsible for providing a safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate wrestling program for middle school student-athletes. The coach will teach wrestling fundamentals, promote sportsmanship and teamwork, supervise student-athletes, and support the academic, social, and physical development of all participants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and conduct organized, age-appropriate practices that teach wrestling fundamentals, conditioning, technique, and strategy. Teach proper wrestling techniques with an emphasis on student safety and injury prevention. Provide appropriate instruction for beginning and experienced wrestlers. Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, responsibility, perseverance, and respect. Establish and communicate clear expectations for student-athlete behavior, attendance, effort, and participation. Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, transportation, and other team activities as assigned. Maintain a safe practice and competition environment and immediately address unsafe conduct or conditions. Follow district, school, league, and applicable governing-body rules and regulations. Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director, administrators, other coaches, officials, parents/guardians, and school staff. Communicate practice schedules, competition information, expectations, and program updates to student-athletes and families. Encourage student-athlete appropriate academic performance and school attendance. Maintain accurate team rosters, equipment records, and other required documentation. Assist with the distribution, care, inventory, and collection of wrestling uniforms and equipment. Ensure wrestling mats, equipment, and practice areas are properly maintained and used safely. Attend scheduled meets, tournaments, coaches' meetings, and other required athletic events.
