ABOUT Home Field Advantage, established in 2016 in Downey, CA, is a 501(c)(3) sports leadership nonprofit dedicated to creating healthier, more connected communities by mentoring local leaders to coach in their neighborhoods at underused facilities, ultimately fostering an inclusive, sustainable sports structure. JOB DESCRIPTION HFA

is seeking experienced Sports Instructors to provide onsite sport instruction to TK-8 students at various Downey Unified School District (DUSD), Whittier City School District (WCSD), Mountain View School District (MVSD) and Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) elementary and middle school sites for the 2026-2027 school year. Coaches may also participate in school games as coaches or refs and coaching education days throughout the school year. Candidates must be ready to begin with season preparation as early as September 2026 .

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coaching practices for TK-8 students at Downey Unified School District (DUSD), Whittier City School District (WCSD), Mountain View School District (MVSD), and/or Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) campuses
• Utilizing HFA coaching curriculum and adjusting curriculum according to different levels and ages
• Mentoring volunteer assistant coaches from local high schools and colleges
• Setting up and cleaning up practice environment
• Assuring all equipment is organized and put away after practice
• Maintaining communication with HFA staff, volunteers, and families
• Creating a fun and encouraging environment for players and volunteer coaches of all levels
• Attend required staff meetings , trainings, and professional development sessions
• Follow all HFA policies , procedures, safety protocols, and partner school requirements.
• Adhere to HFA's dress code by wearing the required HFA-issued shirt, athletic bottoms (shorts, athletic pants, or sweatpants), and closed-toe athletic shoes while on duty. Clothes such as jeans, sandals, slides, or non-athletic attire are not permitted.
• Coaches may not use Meta Glasses or any device to record audio, video, or images during their scheduled shift. This policy ensures the safety and privacy of all participants and staff. Coaches may not post or share images, videos, or recordings of participants or staff on personal social media accounts or other platforms without prior authorization from Home Field Advantage.
• Personal cell phone use should be limited to work-related communication or emergencies.
• Complete required documentation if requested: attendance records, incident reports, or other administrative tasks in a timely manner

Attendance and Substitutions :

if a coach is unable to attend a scheduled session, it is their responsibility to arrange for a qualified substitute coach to fill in. If no substitute is secured, the coach is expected to work the scheduled session.

QUALIFICATIONS

• must be passionate about inspiring youth through sports and leadership
• experience coaching school-age children
• experience leading groups of school-age children
• must be 18+
• have a mode of transportation to get to practice in a timely manner
• have a positive attitude!

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 2 years of coaching experience

Bilingual:

English and Spanish

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires onsite instruction at multiple DUSD, WCSD, MVSD, and LAUSD elementary and middle schools located in Downey, Whittier, El Monte, and Compton.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a part-time position. Substitute Hours are from 1:30-5:30 PM (4 hours), Monday-Friday , in alignment with DUSD, WCSD, MVSD, LAUSD's 2026-2027 school year. Substitutes will be asked to fill in when needed! Once called in Substitutes will receive the Coaching rate for the scheduled Coaching time.

Duration:

September 14th - May 28th (Monday-Friday; excluding certain school breaks and Federal Holidays). Additionally you will be working League Games in Whittier (WCSD) starting from October 2026-February 2027. These days are set.

PAY RATE

We offer the following pay rates:

Coaching:

starting rate of $22/hour (Sport Practices and Game Days) Substitute /

Training:

flat rate of $18/hour (Substitute Hours, Professional Development, Sexual Harassment / Mandated Reporter, Sport Certification / Licensure, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS

Clearances:

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful clearance of the following: Background check clearance TB test clearance from doctor (Due within the first 30 days of coaching)

Education:

(required for MVSD coaches) must have completed at least 48 units or have an AA Degree in College

Certificates:

Within the first 30 days of employment, the following certificates must be obtained: CPR & First Aid Certification Mandated Reporter Training (General & School Personnel) Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (Nonsupervisory)

Pay:

$18.00 - $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 per week
