The position is rooted in St. Margaret's mission and core values, emphasizing excellence in athletics, character development, safety, teamwork, and mentorship. The coach will help facilitate practices, meets, and program coordination in collaboration with the Head Coach and Athletics Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Coaching and Instruction Provide instruction in distance running fundamentals, including running mechanics, pacing, race strategy, conditioning, and recovery. Assist in developing and leading structured practices designed to improve endurance, strength, speed, and overall athletic performance. Offer individualized feedback and instruction to support athlete progress and development. Demonstrate proper technique and training progressions based on age and ability level. Program Support Collaborate with the Head Cross Country Coach to implement season goals, training plans, and daily practices. Support meetday responsibilities including warmups, athlete checkins, and event oversight. Assist in maintaining equipment, organizing drills, and promoting a positive training culture. Help track athlete attendance, participation, and performance. Student-Athlete Development Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting sportsmanship and academic balance. Prioritize student safety and wellbeing through close collaboration with the Athletic Trainer. Maintain an encouraging and inclusive team environment. Communication and Professionalism Maintain regular communication with coaching staff, athletes, and families. Represent St. Margaret's Episcopal School with integrity and professionalism in all interactions. Comply with school, league, and CIF policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Minimum of two years of relevant coaching experience. Ability to instruct, motivate, and supervise studentathletes in a professional and supportive manner. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, studentcentered mindset. Preferred Varsitylevel coaching experience. College playing or coaching experience.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Hourly Range:
$21.00 $27.00, commensurate with experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT
This position involves frequent standing, walking, running, bending, lifting, and verbal demonstration of physical movements. The coach must have the ability to move safely across athletic facilities and cross country courses, including uneven terrain, carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and respond effectively to emergency situations. Work primarily takes place outdoors and may require prolonged exposure to varying weather and environmental conditions.
