Job Description

This position is responsible for planning, managing, and directing the swim team at the Walnut Creek Family YMCA and for ensuring the safety of participants. This position will need to coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups and at meets, promoting improvement and growth. In addition, this full-time position's off-deck responsibilities will include administrative and operational tasks vital to team management, growth and culture.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions Completion of high school or equivalent Two years of competitive coaching experience Working knowledge of competitive teams Demonstrated computer skills in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office environment American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches (Lifeguard certification will be accepted with proof of successful completion of the online Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification) YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Registered USA Swimming Coach or obtained in the first 30 days if hired Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification OR equivalent - prior to starting. Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired. Additional training to be completed and maintained afterwards.

Is regularly required to use a computer and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. Ability to perform moderate physical activity and adapt to frequently changing work conditions. Is often required to climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, and may at times require peripheral vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position usually works in an office, fitness, and/or aquatic oriented environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. This position works a standard work week, but additionally will often work evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate program activities and events. Travel will be required for swim meets including out-of-the-area and overnight travel. The employee must have the ability to work a flexible schedule.
